Twitchy legs - any solutions?!?

Am only 7 wks with no 2, but already suffering from really twitchy legs at night. Driving me mad!!! Had them with DS, but only in 3rd trimester, but was a nightmare - used to have to get off the tube about 4 times on way home from work to walk up and down platform to make it stop enough to get back on train. Does anyone have any ideas about how to make it ease off a bit, or even why it happens in the first place?!

Have been having this myself recntly, drives me nuts. On looking through old threads, read about and tried with some success, making them very cold before going to bed! Put the cold shower on my legs only. A bit gaspy but seemed to work. Plus, eat more bananas - the potassium helps.

Can you take potassium supplements? Not overly keen on bananas at the moment.....
Will try the cold water trick if i can gather up the courage....
cheers

I have been having these pretty badly too! Sleeping with a pillow between my legs have helped a bit.... So did spending 1/2 hour in all my fours right before going to bed. Don't ask me why.... I was doing to encourage baby to get in the right position and discovered it helped!

BTW, when I asked the doctor, she suggested I drink more milk!
Hope it gets better!

I had these some months back-I tried drinking tonic water on the advice of a fellow sufferer & found it worked.Milk helped too.

I hope you get some relief-it is awful, especially at night.

Thanks so much for advice - am going out now to stock up on tonic water - wonder what that's all about? Maybe the quinine or something? Can't believe it's already started at 7 weeks - hate to think what it will be like at 37.... tonic water and banana junkie!
Tried the pillow - seems to help a bit, but still there a bit. Next stop calf stretches and cold water...

hello, i know this is an old thread but i've just read on other sites that you shouldt drink tonic water during pregnancy because it contains quinine. i dont know much more so you might want to do some research before drinking it!

I think what you are talking about is restless leg syndrome and it is really common in pregnancy. I suffered from it and still do... the quinnine doesnt help Restless legs it helps with cramps (especially during the night) - per my gp. but bananas (potassium) does - theoretically!! i find the only thing that helps me is not too get too overtired before bed (i know!) and no caffeine!! i am 8 weeks and the nighttime twitches have not started yet, but i know how intolerable it can be....i used to walk around the house for hours at night!!

I have this, now nearly 36wks and its horrid. I have recently found Burts Bees Mama Bee leg and foot cream. I put it on my legs at night after a bath and it is helping quite a bit. I must warn you though that you don't need to massage much in as the oils make your legs go really really cold. I have also been eating more bananas just in case.
