Only 7 weeks pregnant but uncomfortable in trousers

Is it normal to feel like this and what have other people done? I don't have a bump or anything but i can't stand anything tight across my tummy and am living in tracksuit bottoms or my jeans undone at home at the moment. I'm a bit worried about when i go back to work next week, i spend a lot of time sitting at a desk and i can see i'm going to be uncomfortable but i don't really think i can sit there with my trousers undone!!! So any suggestions? The only thing i have come up with is one of those bump bands that you can wear over your trousers undone but that seems a bit premature when i don't actually have a bump!! Am i the only 7 week pregnant person to feel like this!! (This is my first).

I couldn't wear a pair of my trousers at 7 weeks and needed new bras before 12 weeks too.

The same happened to me even though noone knew I was pregnant, I felt I got big at the start and then didnt explode til near the end of the pregnacy

What you need to do is slide an elastic band loop through the buttonhole, and then loop it over the button. Do you get it? It's hard to explain, easier to demonstrate!

I had to do it from early on due to nausea. It helps a lot, though of course you need to wear "cover", but it's reasonably discreet and stops your trews falling down -- always a bonus.

I'm exactly the same. I'm envisioning having to undo my pants while at work and fumbling about if I have to answer the door!

In my case it's the trapped wind, which is horrible and much worse than with my first.

The saddest thing is that I just lost a load of weight and am the thinnest I've been for years... and threw away all my bigger sizes about 6 weeks before I got caught!

Elastic band through buttonhole, then through itself, then you have a loop which loops over the button.

I think that's better.

The elastic band/bobble trick has got me through the past 5 weeks I refuse to buy maternity clothes at 12 weeks!

Do you not have any looser trousers? I certainly couldn't get into all of mine by 8 weeks but I have always had a 'fat day' selection which lasted to 13 weeks!

Will see if i can find some bigger trousers in the sale. A bit reluctantly cos i suppose they won't last me very long but at least i'll be confortable and in the mean time i'll experiment wth the hair bobble/elastic band thingy - i think i get what you mean!

Thanks

I am exactly the same way - waistbands make my MS much worse so I broke down and bought some maternity jeans - best thing ever!!! So comfortable and you can't tell at all (although I'm sure I look like I'm getting fat but that will make sense in a month or so!)

I was the same with ds. I bought some cheap trousers. Primark or is it Peacocks come up bigger in your normal size, so it gave me abit of room. They were good for after the birth too.

I did wonder whether i could get away with maternity trousers, at least they'd stretch with me so last a bit longer but thought i'd get odd looks buying maternity gear with no bump!! Plus it seems a little scary right now - i got a bit freaked out going into mother care to buy support and sleep bras at the weekend!!

My sister gave me some of her trousers as she's a bit bigger than me. I also bought a few pairs of smartish jogging bottom type trousers as they were stretchy but looked ok.

I am 7 weeks 5 days and haven't worn my old jeans/trousers for a few weeks. Like you, I couldn't bear the tightness so at about 5 weeks I bought some flowing dresses and am wearing these or the baggier pairs of trousers I already owned. At 4 weeks my old bras already were too small and the underwire digging in.

The doctor weighed me today and I've put on at least 4-5 pounds already; that, plus the water retention and not wanting to feel hemmed in, means that my old teeny tiny jeans are out - I have sorted my wardrobe into comfy clothes and my old sized (often quite fitted clothes) which I don't envisage wearing til at least 2010!!

I recommend wearing dresses (with tights in this weather!). As there's no waistband they're so much more comfortable and they'll stretch as your bump gets bigger.
I got a couple of nice thin jumper dresses from H&M and live in them at the mo.
I'm only 13 weeks pg but I've just invested in a pair of maternity jeans, I love them! Elastic waist bands are the future! Think I'll carry on wearing them even when I'm not pg lol. I'm not saying buy maternity jeans just yet but there's no point in waiting till you've got a proper bump but once your normal jeans don't fit you anymore u should get yourself some x

Thanks, didn't think about dresses, might invest in a couple - they're bound to last me a while.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions

Hi all,

Thought it was just me, am 8 ish weeks and am finding clothes are giving me tummy ache (which has been worrying me but to be honest everything is!)
I got some maternity trousers for £12 from Asda that have a little elastic band inside and buttons so you can extend and reduce as need be.
They might not last all that long, but I think if you don't want to spend a lot they are excellent value, I might have to start wearing them next week now I have read this!

Just to add on dresses, this is what got me through the early weeks and I'm still wearing them now at 22 weeks with room to go. I've got several from Boden, that are an empire line shape in jersey. Cardigans over the top to ring the changes in colours helps you to wear them for a couple of days at work and boots helps to make them smart but not too 'dressy'. Boden have massive sale on right now

I would recommend maternity tights too if you are going to wear dresses/skirts. M&S are the most comfortable I've found but they only sell online and they are out of stock right now but I've just ordered some from here and they are also the only place I found them in Brown.

I wore a maternity bandeau thingy from Maman Bebe JoJo in my last pregnancy and was still able to wear normal trousers with it at 5 months. No such luck this time- am 10 weeks and already using it to get into normal work trousers. they are really comfy though (and great in this cold weather).

I had this problem too and have coped with it by living in jogging bottoms (not flattering but so comfy) and leggings under elasticated waisted skirts. I too felt 'uncomfortable' round middle from early on and tight waistbands definitely made my MS worse.

Luckily I'm on number 3 and don't work so don't have to worry too much about being 'smart'.

I am glad to read these comments, I thought I was going mad!! 7.5 weeks gone and my mother told me I "look Pregnant" along with my best friend. My tummy has def gotten bigger and is now firm (prob water retention) First pregnancy so dont know what to expect really. Dont feel comfy in trousers anymore. . what i have being doing is tucking nice blouses/shirts into any flowy skirts i have with a thick waistband. . but pulling the skirt up above my waist (half way up midriff) with some tights, People who dont know I am pregnant have being complimenting my "new style" It makes an old outfit into a nice new one and u dont have to worry about anything being tight on ur tummy Good luck xxx

I was big at about 8 weeks, its a shock as you don't really expect it til later on.

The hair bobble thing got me through as did wearing tights back to front

If you buy a bigger size and wear them the wrong way round you get the 'bum' bit to go over your tummy, IYSWIM.

Congratulations BTW!
