I just wondered if anyone could offer any reassurance? I'm 20 weeks tomorrow, all is going well but well meaning friends and family keep commenting on how small my bump is and how most people at my stage look a lot bigger. I'm starting to get a bit paranoid as don't have my 20 weeks scan until I'm nearly 23 weeks (due to xmas). I keep telling myself its not showing too much because I'm very tall and size 12 normally. I can feel baby moving and have heartburn from hell - all good signs I feel.

is this your first baby?> if you have good strong ab muscles, then you might well not show until later. i really would not worry , babies and bumps come on all shapes and sizes and as long as your baby is deemed to be growing fine at your AN appointments with the MW, then there is no cause for concern IMO

my sister did not show for months, whereas i looked pregnant seconds after conception, it depends on so many factors!

I always have small bumps. I have friends at 12 weeks now bigger than I am at 22 and this is th ebiggest bump at this stage out of all four of mine. Didnt stop the babies being bigguns though.
I'm tall aslo and normally a size 12ish.

I'm sure everythings fine

I never showed no one knew I was pg unless they knew me obviously so dont worry about it.

Could be that baby is to the back rather than out front.

Congrats BTW.

all replies have said they didnt understand my post so ill try again would REALLYYY appreciate if anyone could give me knowlogable answer as im really confused lol here i go...

i had a period may 25th 08 (before i got pregnant i havent bled since this period)
i have a 35 day cycle
i had sex june 16t 08
had a scan that showed 8 weeks on july 30th (this put my period at a week later than it was but minus the 2 weeks before i concieved it pretty much went back to the day i concieved)
had a 2nd scan that showed 13+1 (4 days less that the 1st scan showed they took my due date of 15th march 09 from this)
then 3rd scan at 21 weeks(tied in exactly with the 1st scan)
my due date is march 14
my question is would you trust this or could i have gotton pregnant before that period the month before as ppl keep commenting how 'big' i am for 28 weeks! would you trust these scans as i dont want 2 go over by a month could it be possible? anyone please help xxxxx

Thanks everyone. I do feel silly as I know there are more important things to think about, but it does help to have a bit of reassurance. Its my first after having a mc the first time, so I'm being a bit of a worrier.

Spakling I would trust the scans. Your size really doesnt have anything to do with it

sparklingreactions · 22/12/2008 17:53

can the scans be 3-4 weeks out at 8 weeks?

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 22/12/2008 17:54

trust the scans, the earlier they are , the more accurate, but your baby will arrive when he/she is ready to be born

no, they could not be that far out at 8 weeks. the difference in size between a 4 week and an 8 week embryo is too big and you would not see a heartbeat on a 4 week embryo. that is my non medical opinion anyway

also, sperm can live up to 7 days, so you might not have conceived on the day you think

the scan says i concieved on the day i think i am just confused wether they could be extremely wrong like up to a month out

Report
Lulumamaloveslatkes · 22/12/2008 17:58

it is highly unlikely to be so far out.

why are you so concerned?

ok, the size of your bump does nt always mean you are carrying a huge baby

when you visit your MW does your fundal height measurement match how many weeks you are?

is she concerned? was there any concern at your scan you were carrying a huge baby?

a normal full term pregnancy is anywhere between 37 - 42 weeks

there is a small increased risk of stillbirth going post dates, BUT it is v small. most hospitals are happy for mothers to go at least 10 days over their EDD or to go to 42 weeks.

some babies need to be in utero longer, some for 43 weeks

Sparkling - dating scans are most accurate in the first trimester.

The scan that measured your baby as 8 weeks could not have been wrong by 3 weeks or more. An 11 week old foetus wouldn't measure that small and still be alive.

I'm 6ft 4 and a size 14 shhh don't tell anyone lol
First preg, my daughter was 7lb 11 and no one but family knew i was preg until 8 months.
2nd, my son was 8lb 12 and i didn't show till around 7 months.
This one is measuring up to be around the 8-9 lb mark also after an 11 year break and everyone has worried me to death saying how little bump is..only cos i had to tell everyone as this time i was working, started showing at around 6 months which i'm sure was a reaction to the 'small bump club' and led to me jutting my belly out and getting a bad back for my sins lol.
Don't let these ppl bother you, you will find the baby has lots of room in your torso to grow so u won't show as much, plus you may be like me and have wide hips which hides most of a baby as well.
Relax and enjoy your preganancy hun xx And think of it like this..small bump = less stretch marks!
