Pregnancy

This morning I found out I was pregnant with DC2 but I have forgotten things I maybe need to know, so I have some questions....

What do I need to avoid food wise?

When do I need to see MW for arranging booking in appointment?

And can someone explain why I am so bloody cold all the time

Mould ripened cheese, raw meats/fish, too much alchol/caffine, unwashed salad/fruit/veg, pate.
I think you go to your GP first, report the pregnancy and they will book you in to see the Midwife.
You're cold because you're tired - that's what does it for me anyway. Oh and it's Autumn.

unpasteurised cheeses

tuna?

Bubbaluv · 13/11/2008 16:11

Antdamm, you can eat unpasturised cheese if they are hard and not mould-ripened. You can't eat pasturised cheese if it is mould ripened.

Yep all big fish live long enough to accumulate mercury so you can't eat too much of it.

You'r cold because it's blardy freezing and you're too tight to put the heating on?

Congratulatiuons BTW!

Prewashed salads have to be washed again.

What the others said (though you can have unpasteurised hard cheese)

Anything liver or high levels of vit. A e.g. some fish oil supplements or cod liver oil.

What about if I have had some of the things I shouldn't have had before I knew I was PG. I had a drink last night and last weekend had quite a good drink. Also I had fried egg with runny yolks for my breakfast a couple of mornings ago.

Should I be worried?

No don't worry!

Congrats! I'm 8 weeks pg tomorrow, and bloody freezing. There was a thread about this the other day, think it's just a 1st trimester quirk.

Dusty, there was a thread recently called How Strict Are You? or something like that, and you will find that most people take the restrictions with a pinch of salt anyway. Check it out - it will make you feel better and will give you some perspective on the risks.
Hedgewitch what do you mean by "food from the deli counter"? Lots of those things are fine! Olives etc are not a problem. Do you mean hams and salamis? And if so, why would pre-packed be ok?

Hard unpasteurised cheese is fine - eg Parmesan. Don't worry about the runny yolks, all eggs in the UK should be free from salmonella so its just a theoretical risk.

Bubbaluv I'm not HW, but I can answer the question. She meant deli counter meat because it has been sitting out, exposed to the air and sits out a bit, even though refrigerated. Pre-Packed is fine because it is sealed at the processing plant and you will eat it all before it can grow bacteria, provided you watch the use by date!

Dusty I just found out I was pg at (they think) 20 weeks or so and I haven't done anything you're supposed to - lucky I don't drink I suppose - and not too worried about any of the Rules. if you are taking folic acid you are doing way better than me!

Congratulations Dusty

FWIW, I fell pregnant last December, which is my birthday month as well as Christmas. Didn't find out till the day before NYE and consequently had drunk enough booze to float a battleship. DS (so far) appears to be fine and dandy

I also do think it's up to you to some extent how strict you are. I ate tons of Mr Whippy ice cream (didn't even know it was meant to be verboten), ditto bagged salad, and had the occasional runny yolk.

Tee thanks for the info, but can bacteria not get into the salami (for example) in the months it sits in open air being made? Is the skin really bacteria proof?
