No bump and worried...any words of reassurance?!

Morning!! I know there is a constant stream of "when did you show" threads but this is slightly different!!

I will be 19 weeks tomorrow and have no sign of a bump...I am a little overweight...okay slight understatement...i think my BMI is about 31/32...and I carry my weight on my stomach bum and thighs.

I am just worried that there is no sigh of a bump at all and am convinced this means baby has stopped growing, as I havent really felt anything which Im sure was baby moving.

I know you tend to show later if you are overweight, and it is my first, but I cant stop worrying. I know there are people out there who say they didnt show until 7 or even 8 months...but I guess my question is, does this mean you showed no sign of a bump at all, or just that other people couldnt tell you were pregnant?

I have my 20 weeks scan a week today and am just petrified of what they will say.

Sorry...I am aware this is very rambly and seems to lack a point...but if you managed to follow me can you tell me if I am being crazy!!!!

Thanks

I think you will be showing later. Also, you may not be feeling any movement because of the position of your placenta - they will be able to tell this at the scan.

Have you had mw/GP appts where they have listened to the heartbeat? If you're worried, it's worth phoning your MW to ask if you can come in so she can have a listen. But I'm sure all is fine

check out my profil pic of my bump at 7months. it literally appeared overnight. i dont get a bump till late on in pregnancy.

i can feel where the top of my bump is, so was not worried.

MW listened to the heartbeat at 16 week appointment but that feels like an age ago now! I have always been a worrier and the worst case scenario is always foremost in my mind...but it is driving me crazy...sometimes I feel myself accepting that ther will be no baby and have to almost slapp myself.

I only have a number for the midwife "triage" which I have left in my notes at home...not much use there I know!!

I am reluctant to call MW as it is only a week untiol scan...I dont want to come across as a paranoid first timer.....even though thats what I am!

Misdee...that is the only thing that stopping me going to A&E! I can feel something hard/grisly just under my belly button...as thats where uterus is supposed to be at 19 weeks I am assuming this is top of uterus. Is that what it should feel like?!

And if that appeared overnight at 7 months I am somewhat reassured!!

yes, if you can feel the top of the uterus around bellybutton then thats good. my placenta this time is at the front, and i didnt feel movement until very late. with the other three i felt movement well before 16 weeks. this time was over 20 weeks till i got def kicks.

people are finally asking when i'm due andf i love the looks on their faces wheni say 'oh just over 5 weeks now'

Hi, with my first I didn't have a bump until at least 25 weeks, and even in this one I got into a very slinky bridesmaids dress at 19 weeks and no-one knew I was pregnant. If I take my clothes off though I can see physical changes in my body (not sure I could last time though), the bit above my pubic hair is rounded and if I press on my abdomen (gently!) I can feel the hardness of my uterus or top of bump like misdee says. Need to be lying down to do the last bit.

I didn't feel movement last time until at about 23-4 weeks. My placenta was and is on my tummy though which can make movement harder to feel. Also I think with my first I didn't know what to feel for if you see what I mean and dismissed what could have been baby as wind or ligaments stretching.

Basically don't worry too much, I know what you mean about calling your midwife but it would take her 3 minutes to put your mind at rest and I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

emma- I am 25 weeks and people don't believe me that i am pregnant yet. Met my husbands work colleagues for the first time yesterday and they were stunned as he had told them all that I was nearly 6 months pregnant. Depends on what i am wearing but somedays it looks like I have just over indulged on cake a bit (I have so that may explain it!)
My 20 week scan showed all ok and have heard the heart beat this week. i think it ie because I have a long body (really little legs tho') and there is lots of space for the babay to be in vertically rather than it all needing to come out in front. Actually quite pleased because all the girls on my antenatal thread are sounding big and tired and I feel great!

oooh...buckles...that could be a contributing factor!! I am 5"9'with a reasonably long body...couple that with being fat I could never show!!!

I am feeling a little better now...I think I will try and wait it out until the scan!

If you don't show, just think of all the money you will save on maternity clothes
