Hi, I am 23 weeks pregnant and over the last 4 weeks I have had contact pain in my groin area, especially when I walk / move / roll over in bed etc.

I am worried I have SPD - because the pain is getting worse, I also have bad back ache at the bottom of my back too.

I am booked in to see the doctor friday but just wanted to know what exerices I could start doing in the mean time.

Thanks for your help.

Jackie

Im not sure you are meant to do much until after and then slow gentle Pilate's is best after, all the core strengthening ones. I saw someone in my pregnancy at the end for SPD and all she did with me was rock me on my side with my legs together to free up tension and make me feel more mobile. It was all stopped at 32weeks I think.

I could be wrong though and may be someone else will have been given something more useful.

Sorry you may have it

I had SPD so I can sympathise.

As bizarre as it sounds I was a guinea pig for a friend learning reflexology and after having just one treatment my SPD pretty much stopped. It may have been coincidence as I am a total sceptic about these things, but it was spooky how the SPD vanished after having the reflexology.
It is a really lovely feeling anyway to be a bit pampered when you are pregnant.

try accupuncture too - REALLY helped me when pg with dd. I have SPD again (29w) and it is excrutiating, I hope yours dosn't get any worse.

I've been doing prenatal yoga which I think is helping a bit - some days my symptoms aren't so bad...have to avoid the moves where my legs are up in the air and apart, or any that feel too painful. Find the stretching good, esp for my lower back.

I also have an enormous memory foam body pillow for bed which I'm finding pretty good - I kind of wrap myself around it at night and it moulds into me. It's good but a pain to move as it's pretty heavy!

My midwife prescribed me paracetamol with codeine, it makes me a bit sleepy so I sometimes take it before bed - makes the turning over not SO painful.

Loads of ladies on mn will give you advice on managing SPD, or do a search.

Hope you get some relief. I totally sympathise, it's hellish. Makes me detest being pregnant.

definitely get to a physio/osteo/chiropractor. i found all exercises too painful during pregnancy (had to give up yoga) but am now doing the pilates in the aftermath. (10 weeks post birth now).
i found rolling in bed absolutely excruciating. just keep your legs together at all times and try not to twist your hips at all. very difficult i know and you will feel like a beached whale.
hope you get some relief.
