Hi

had 34 weeks antenatal check today and everything okay but was told had alot of sugar in my water and have to go for a fasting blood test, as Dr worried about diabetes, what does this mean the only thing i associate diabetes with is a big baby, what else?

I didn't have anything before i did the test, didn't have time to stop and eat or drink anything! Not worried just wondered what else it came with!

Hi Gem, I had high sugars in one test, but not high enough to have the glucose tolerance test and they dropped again to normal soon after. My doctor told me that pregnant women often have extra sugar in their urine as the liver isn't working so well, about 1/10 tests during pregnancy will show high levels, with the amount of tests we have, I guess that means most will have a high sugar result at some point. He said the majority of times the glucose test won't show any diabetes, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. My sister had a glucose tolerance test and everything was fine. Even if you have got gestational diabetes it is fairly easy to control and they'll give you lots of information. Good luck!

With all 3 of my pregnancies, I had sugar (+++) in the urine from the day I was pregnant until the day I delivered. The GP used to joke that I should waste money on Pregnancy testing kits - just have a urine sample tested

Anyway, I had many, many Glucose Tolerance Tests throughout - and all of them came back with a Negative blood result.

They did say that the problem was down to my kidneys not filtering as well as they should do. However, never have a problem when not pregnant.

HI

Went for my check up with the DR today as still in agony with back and hips, have a physio appointment on monday, but what can i do to try and relax, i'm on a daily dose of paracetomal now, as i'm in agony most of the day. Dr said will see what the physio says next week and if bad on his opinion might admit me early, just wondering if anyone who is having trouble with there back or hips can give me some advice?
