Hyperemesis

I had really bad hyperemesis in all 3 previous pregnancies and was hospitsalised for several periods in each one. In my last pregnancy they finally gave me anti-emetic tablets (I cant remember what they were called) to help me manage at home. Im now Pg with No4, Im 6 weeks and am already being sick 4-5 times a day, my DH is away with work till Xmas and family dont live close by so I really need to avoid being admitted into hospital. Does anyone know if I can be given tablets this early on in my pregnancy? I have something in the back of my mind which tells me that they only gave me them after 12 weeks last time but not sure!?!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I got anti-emetics at 9 weeks. Was hospitalised on and off with hyperemisis weeks 9 -15.

My hospital and GP were happy to give me antiemetics (and I tried them all!) but GP's locum wasn't.

With your history I would go in and insist on them.

I had bad hyperemesis and had to really push to be given the tablets. Would be in and out of hospital evry few days My mum and nan both had 3 pgs exactly the same so in the end I insisted.

Thanks for your advise. I have booked an appointment with my GP for tomorrow (I needed to see him to let them know I was PG too!) I will insist that I need them now I know that they can be given before 12 weeks.

I was in and out of hospital too and various anti emetics very early on. Nothing worrked for me though and in the end I threatened termination if they didn't give me zofran, which they did at about 10 weeks and it worked like a miracle

LaTrucha · 01/09/2008 14:33

I had them at 8 weeks I think.

Also has zofran here from v early on as was sick as a pig for both DD's with hospitalisations etc (dh now needs to be persuaded to try for no3 as it was so bad) I had a military GP who had been in the same situation and was v. sympathetic!

Zofran (ondansetron) is v expensive but fab as nothing else worked!

They wouldnt give me anything until after 12 weeks, due to all of them having warnings about complications in first 12 weeks.

I was in hospital at 3 weeks and was in most of the time up to about 7 months. I had every anti emetic there was going and tried every combination right through the pregnancy from 3 weeks up until delivery. I was also put on steroids at 12 weeks for the sickness and nausea. I put on 6 stone and could not get out of bed for the whole pregnancy. My baby was born absolutely healthy and sickness stopped straight away. Its a long old slog but it does end and i have forgotten that sick feeling completely.

Hi, girls, this thread seems to be defunct but wanted to say we've got an Hyperemesis support thread going - it's called 'Hyperemesis Awareness' but that's a misnomer, sufferers and ex sufferers use it to have a good rant and support each other.
