early blood tests

This is going to sound weird...

I can have my maternal serum testing anytime after 10 weeks. It will tell me probability of Downs etc.

The clinic that takes the blood near my house is only open Wed and Fri, so I could go tomorrow, when I am only JUST 10 weeks along, or Friday, when I'm 10 weeks 2 days.

Will the testing be more accurate if I wait longer? I want to get the results before Monday so I can tell other mums on a night out!

I don't think it will make much difference. Silly thread, I'm sure nobody will reply...

None of my mum friends know yet, it would be a good time to tell them...

Why not give your mw a call tomorrow and ask Shubie
Or maybe one will be along here soon

Why are you able to have them done so early then?

Thanks for replying... I don't have a midwife, it's my GP. Maybe I'll call the clinic tomorrow and ask!

Mmm, don't know, it's done in Canada between 10-14 weeks. The first tests anyway.

My first scan is 11 weeks, normally at 12 but I'll be away for weeks 12-14!

If you're going away in weeks 12-14, having them done early (and I know they can be done that early here) is probably a good idea. Are you telling your friends you're pregnant or particularly about blood test results? What if it isn't the news you're presumably hoping for?

That's not meant as a nasty question, but although I'm old enough to be high risk for that alone, I was terriby shocked to get a phone call with the result of my combined test (scan and bloods).

Also, does your clinic tell you the results whatever they are very quickly? I only got my hospital test results in less than 48 hours because of the high risk result.

No, I'm not telling anyone yet precisely because I want to know these results first...

It's not nasty to say that, I don't mind, you're just being realistic!

I'm a bit worried because my scan is the day before we go on holiday, I hope it's all good.

I went this morning in the end because it's supposed to rain all day Friday and I won't have the car... so I'll find out soon enough!

Did everything turn out OK for you elkiedee? How did you handle the news? Did you have an amnio?

I only got that phone call last Thursday, and I'm stressed out by the news, am going for CVS tomorrow, as I'd have to wait an extra 3 weeks for amnio (16 weeks).

Will look for your news when I'm ready to get back online, or ask dp to have a look for me.

Oh, I didn't realise you were pregnant now! I thought you meant from a previous pregnancy. I won't even have the option for a CVS before we go... aack!
I'll look for you tomorrow, good luck (as much as luck comes into it...)

Just an update...
Called Friday to see about test results and it turns out these aren't the screening tests at all, they're for HIV, chlamydia etc.
So disappointing. I KNOW I don't have an STD...
They don't do the probability scans until 16 weeks, so I can't do anything until I get back.
I do have a scan Wed so hopefully that'll go well.
Good luck elkiedee...
