and if your friend was drinking this much, would you say something, or not?

I wouldn't drink that much but I wouldn't say anything to another woman unless we were very close and I could be sure I was able to phrase it sensitively.

I wouldn't say anything. It would be none of my business.

But I do think that is a little too much - a large glass of wine can be 2 or 3 units, and every other day is a bit too regular.

Not, IMO

Also, if it was a very close fiend (i have 2 in mind) the yes i would say something.

None of my business but I think it's too much!

Thanks. She is a very close friend, but I have never, ever raised anything like this with her before so really don't know how she would react.

I don't want to upset her, but then if she's not aware it could be a problem it seems wrong to not say anything..

Its okay, risk of FAS only kicks in with 6 units a day I think and the evidence base for FAE (worse outcomes with greater amount of drink) is very weak. My only problem is that after a large glass i would probably be more tempted to finish the bottle

if it was about 2 units I would say nothing to be concerned about
if it was much more than that I don't think it is a good idea
in either case I would not say anything.

Would she really not be aware of it? You do get a lot of information when you are pregnant.

see
this link basically what is says is that there is no evidence of ANY harm with 2 units a day but to be safe don't drink at all

I don't know really, she does make comments like "ooh, naughty pregnant woman drinking" but doesn't really seem ashamed, if you see what I mean. More kind of jokey about it.

She is very petite too, only 5 ft.

Thanks witch, this is why I asked. I definitely don't want to say anything if there is nothing to worry about anyway.

why should she be ashamed?

Report
HuwEdwards · 02/07/2008 14:42

No I wouldn't say anything. I would assume as a grown woman and with all the 'evidence' from 'experts' shoved in our faces nowadays that she knows the risks and is making an informed decision which may be right or wrong, but is her own business.

Witch, I think there is more than 2 units in one of her large glasses. They are very large.

No-one knows if it's harmful or not. Some babies are affected by only small amounts of alcohol, but others won't be.

Is she aware that official advice is NO alcohol whilst pregnant?

AuntieSocial · 02/07/2008 14:45

What I mean by that comment is that she chastises herself but not in a sincere manner.

I did not say she should be ashamed, as you will see from the entry you just quoted.
