Pregnancy

Racing heart beat accompanied by breathlessness.....is this something to be worried about?

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and for the last couple of weeks have been getting episodes where my heart seems to go a bit mad and beats quite fast for about 10 seconds or so before settling down again. It sort of makes me gasp, like I'm breathless. It usually happens at least once a day, sometimes more.

I'd read that palpitaions can be quite common. Is this what palpitations feel like?

I've never had anything like this in my previous pregnancies.

definately a lot sweatier than usual.. Have agitation etc but am on ADs for antenatal depression. I suppose they might be causing it?

I had my thyroid function checked about 6mo ago before i was pregnant and it was fine.

I think I'll see the doc as my next AN appointment isn't for another 5 weeks.

I was about to say the same - same symptoms and it turned out I had an overactive thyroid. Mine was finally diagnosed when my eyeballs started hurting . All other symptoms had been dismissed as being stressed (even though I didn't think I was). The other very noticeable symptom was irritability.

I'n v irritable, but I thought that had more to do with the depression than anything else. Am also feeling bone crushingly tired and out of breath, but I am anaemic as well.

Gaaah, pregnancy is shit sometimes isn't it?

I had this - my heart would shudder in my chest! Was horrible! I was told its v.v. common and often seen with anaemia. Don't worry unduly but do get it checked. xx

I had this last week - am currently 16 weeks. Was told it could be due to low blood pressure or anaemia. Both were checked and were fine, the midwife said that for me it is a sign that I am trying to do too much and my body is telling me to slow down.

Do get it checked though, I feel much better now I have taken the midwive's advice.

I'm in with the doctor at 9:30 on Thursday; they have been bad this afternoon and really scared me in the supermarket (and the poor woman on the checkout).

Thanks
