I am interested to hear what other mums have been advised on alcohol, during my first pregnancy 4 years ago when I found out I did not touch a drop until I was at my 12 week booking appt, the midwife asked me how much I had drank and I said none since I discovered I was pregnant, she then said to me a glass once or twice a week of wine would not harm the baby, so I enjoyed a "treat" once every two weeks. This pregnancy during my booking the midwife asked the same question to whcihc I said I had had a glass of champagne and a wine and soda on a different occasion during the first 12 weeks, well if you had seen her face she could not believe what I had told her, dont get me wrong I can live without it and am aware of new recommendations but surely the odd glass of wine is ok now and again??

I've been having a small glass or two a week since about 19 weeks, if not wine, then the odd shandy. It's funny cos I'm not much of a drinker normally but I think it's fine to have a glass with a meal as long as you don't overdo it. She was obviously a self righteous old bag, ignore her!

Ellie Don't worry about it - you were probably just being a lot more honest than most! She was probably just looking fierce at you in case you were underplaying it and were really drinking more than that - whatever she did it worked as she's got you worried (if you see what I mean)

My first pg in Spain I was told no alcohol at all but I still had the occasional small glass of wine as I found it such a shock going from drinking lots to nothing overnight.

In my third pg now and the mw didn't even mention alcohol at the booking in appt. I haven't drunk at all (am 12 weeks) since finding out but mainly because i just don't fancy it. I really think that such small quantities don't do any harm and I had thought that's that what most mws say as well!

Im sure it would be fine to have the odd glass. A friend of my best friend had a baby a few years ago, didnt realise she was pregnant till she went A+E who told her she was in labour. She smoked cigarettes and drunk alcohol as normal due to not knowing she was pregnant and her baby was fine.

This is my first pg and mw seemed to think that a glass or two once a week wouldn't hurt. Having said that have been so sick that I havn't fancied it. Had a glass of champagne at a wedding a few weeks ago and made it last about 2 hours! Will repeat same at next wedding in a couple of weeks!

My sister in France was not stopped from drinking in pg at all, and has two perfectly fine dc. She also got to eat soft and blue cheese.
