Sweep before EDD?

I am due on Sunday but mw wants to do a sweep tomorrow. I said I'd like to discuss first & her reply was a bit terse.

I have already had some good advice about sticking up for what I do / don't want & have read some of the older posts on this topic. I cannot understand though why they'd do one before my due date. None of the other messages mention this happening & I don't want baby irritated out for no reason!

Anyone had a sweep at less than 40 weeks?

Has she given you a reason for wanting to do it early?

Friend recently had a sweep a couple of days early, but only because she was DESPERATE for the baby to come, and her MW took pity on her.

Strange of her to suggest it.

Sweeps only work if you are just about ready to go, which is unlikely before your EDD. Why on earth does she want to do this before your due date?

You absolutely don't have to have a sweep at this stage (or any other if you don't wish to).

why did she suggest it, and why do you not want it?

as beansprout says it will only move things along if they are favourable, so i see no harm in it tbh. a sweep is not a particularly aggressive form of labour stimulation and carries very few risks (it's not a proper induction in other words)

i had a sweep on monday even though not due till tomorrow. was already 3cm dilated but as you can see i am still here :-0

hi
with my dd i was meant to have a sweep but as i put my leg up to get on bed to have it my waters broke

but i asked for them constantly to give me one and they refused because i wasnt 40weeks
they said there was no need or reason to give me one so i think u should ? ur midwife on y she seems so keen to give u one, imo.

i had a sweep at 38 weeks. i was booked for induction 2 days later with cholestasis. the only reason they gave me a sweep is because when she examined me to determine the best way to induce,i was v favourable.
