Good things to throw up: by anyone's standards a TMI thread

Last pregnancy I had hyperemesis for most of the 40 weeks, and this time it started at 6 weeks. I'm taking avomine, and so far since I've been on it, I only actually throw up a few times in the morning (nasty acidy, though) and mostly just once or twice in the evening, and I'm keeping some food down - salty crispy things etc. There's even usually a time of the day when I can get a good proper drink in.

Last time, I remember talking to people on morningsicknesshelp.com about things that are slightly less really-horrible to throw up. For instance, I found out the worst thing is cheese, because it doesn't digest at all and is literally painful, and cheesy and stays in your nose and oesophagus. But someone said instant Chinese/Japanese noodles are good, and I just found out tonight that they're dead right! They are sort of okay to throw up, they taste more or less the same. I'm now looking at food as okay to throw up or horrible to throw up, so wondered if anyone had any helpful tips to steer me towards food that's not really punishing the second time you see it. Serious question, sorry it's so horrible.

I told DP about this thread last week so at approx 3am this morning he woke me up to tell me to add curry to it. Apparently it really burns your nasal passages on the way back up (TMI I know)

We've all been struck down with a sickness bug over the weekend, he thought he'd escaped until last night. I could have done without being told about the curry at 3am though.

also try to avoid anything that will look bad on your carpet if you don't make it to the loo. Ribena V bad. I swore by eating plain covered crystalised ginger from holland and barrett in my 2nd pg (couldn't stand chocolate in my 1st), and now it just brings back to many bad memories and can't touch the stuff

Bad things to puke: apples (get stuck in nose), pineapple, any citrus fruit, pringles (bitter on the way up), mini-cheddars (also bitter), gaviscon, lasagne, anything spicy, fillet-o-fish (ended up all over the bathroom!), chips

Good things to puke: bananas, milk, banana milkshake, yoghurt, pizza (!), simple pasta dishes, chocolate (!).

I'm sure I'll remember a few more things if I think about it but started to feel nauseous...
I had hyperemesis too and found that ginger biscuits did nothing to help the nausea but still tasted like ginger biscuits on the way back up. They certainly seemed to cancel out the horrible acid taste and burn. I can;t really remember anything else. I did like sucking on boiled sweets for the taste in my mouth. My anti-sickness tablets tasted foul on the way back up. I seem to remember sipping pressed apple juice which did help a little. I was also desperate and tried a pickled onion once which helped a lot so I continued to slowly eat a few of them. I don't remember what they tasted like if they came back up though. I think that I've tried to blank out my hyperemesis in the hope that we have another DC. Can remember the birth perfectly though - it was fab grin

Having a bug recently I found that seeds were a bad idea! they were stuck in my nose and the back of my throat for ages afterwards- I've not been put off them though amazingly! All this talk of choking is freaking me out a bit!

Yes do avoid weetabix it's vile vile vile to throw up. I think bulkier foods are better as it's like a big heave and they're gone.. the ones that come up like liquid don't seem to give that non nauseous feeling of relief afterwards. (during which you might quickly be able to eat something and keep it down).

It's a good thread.
polo mints used to keep the sickness at bay a little bit for me, long enough for the bus trip home (ugh...bad memories!) and if they do come back up they still taste nice and have a cooling effect.
Grapefruit juice. Found that my tum was soooo acidy that everything I threw up just tasted really nasty and sour, but grapefruit juice masked it because its quite acidic itself!

Agree that eggs, muesli and spaghetti are all just awful and should be avoided at all costs. As should anything with rice, you will not believe how much vomit a fairly small portion of rice will create. Eeeeeeew!
Cornflakes aren't too bad coming back.
Yogurt as many others have said.

Avoid anything tomatoey. Eek.
