Worried bout stuff I did before I knew I was preg

I only found out I was pregnant last week, as was on the pill and as having light bleeds. It turns out that after a scan Im actually 16 weeks gone. Apart from feeling a bit stupid, I am now very worried now having realised I am actually HAVING this baby.

Ive

Not taken folic acid, apart from my vitamin tablet, and that has vitamin A in it.

Eaten pate, raw fish, unpasturised cheese.

Lifted heavy things, painted the spare room...not used gloves to wash the bathroom and dyed my hair with chemical dye.

Not had a drink of alcohol every day, but a couple of glasses of wine a few times a week, more in dec...but not actually got drunk.

Downed at least 10 cups of tea a day and uite a bit of coffee.

In my first two planned pregnancies, I did everything by the book from the time I was trying to conceive.

Now I am absolutely terrified Ive unknowingly hurt the baby.

Someone tell me it will be ok.

I am an absolute idiot.

It will be fine. If you are really worried why don't you speak to your midwife? I smoked cannabis before I found out I was pregnant, and that really worried me, but mw reassured me everything would be ok and it was

you aren't an idiot but your baby is still there and I guess the scan showing 16 weeks didn't flag up anything scarey?

I think the things you are advised to avoid is due to risk of miscarriage, the only thing I can think of is toxoplasmosis, have you been around sheep/cats/ eaten cured meats? You can get that tested with a simple blood test at the GP's though.

CONGRATULATIONS!! great news.

You will be FINE.
The whole point about the caffeine, heavy lifting and pate/cheese etc. is to avoid miscarriage. Obviously you haven't miscarried!
And the biggest concern about alcohol is getting drunk and binge-drinking which you certainly haven't done. I have a friend who drank more when she was pregnant than I did when I was TTC (she drank a glass of wine or two with dinner) and her children are all fine.
There was a book that I read when I was pregnant first time called "the panic free pregnancy" and the basic message from that was that there is far too much pressure put on pregnant women. The most important things to do are to avoid smoking and cocaine (!) and to avoid Listeria. Seriously, that was everything!

PS How can you be an idiot? You didn't know that you were pregnant!

I have a friend who was taking 'E', drinking like a fish, partying the night away, drinking loads of coffee, dying her hair and all sorts of other things before finding out she was 10 weeks pregnant! Oh - and she had taken the morning after pill as her BF's condom split! Baby was fine and he is a darling little boy now with no problems whatsoever. I think babies must be very strong (especially this little one!)

I feel a bit stupid for not realising I was pregnant sooner, what with the vomiting and putting on a few pounds in the boob and belly area. Im not a spring chicken and have two already!! It just didnt cross my mind that I might be, as I was on the pill - pop. Oh yes, that cant be good either...

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I cant stop thinking about it.

I just having a panic. It is really appreicated everyone..

It's not as rare as you might think/hope to get pregnant on the pill. I can think of at least 4 cases that I know of personally, including one Mum who didn't find out until she was 4 months and now has a healthy teenager.
Please be nice to yourself!

Mrstittlemouse, thank you so much! Im telling myself this pregnancy will go very quickly now. Really? I had no idea the pill was that unreliable.

Btw, love the name, I cant help but imagine you with knitting and a pinny on, like the real tittlemouse.

The didnt see anything unusual on the scan. It all seemed fine. Im booked in for full checks, and 3d scans etc on Friday.

Im going private all the way this time. I wonder if it would make much difference. Hope so!

Thank you! It's probably wishful thinking on my part as I'm a useless housekeeper in real life.

Good luck for your scan on Friday. Confession - I'm actually as bit jealous that you're so far along. I'm limping towards 7 weeks and my first MW appointment seems like an age away.

I would gladly swap, I was that the sonographer said 16 weeks or thereabouts! I almost passed out again. Im still trying to get my head round it.

You poor thing? Feeling sick? Which number are you on?

We love Beatrix Potter in this house, and the little mouse with the clean house is one of my favorites. Are you going to have a Tom Kitten?

Think I worked out how I got preggers. Just READ the pill leaflet for a laugh, and it said must be taken within 3 hours of the same time every day. I never did...I just took it every day, give or take 6 hours sometimes...Eek. So...hey ho...

Oooo yes, that'll do it. I used to take the regular combined pill, and I was useless at remembering. I had to keep them in my work bag, because I'd suddenly remember at lunchtime. I would be no good at all on the POP.

This is PG number 2. I already have a DD who will be 2 when this one is born. She is being raised by CBeebies at the moment, much to my shame. I had exactly the same thing with her pregnancy, except last time it was work that I felt guilty about, I just get so tired and so sick. Hopefully this time the second trimester will be better, I was thoroughly fed up with people telling me how marvellous I would feel after 14 weeks. My morning sickness lastest the first two trimesters last time and I was exhausted for all three. So fingers crossed!

I dont know how on earth I forgot/wasnt told about by the GP that the POP required such precision. Ive been on the pop for 6 months now, 4 of them pregnant. Ha. ha. ha. Im starting to see the funny side..perhaps..

You WILL be ok. I vomited a lot with my first - a dd, then queasy, but only actually puked a few times with ds...this time Ive felt queasy, and am vomiting a lot. Another girl maybe! I got tired very quickly with number two. I wrote it off this time to rushing around too much. I do hope it gets better for you too. I can barely keep my eyes open after 7, then up all night..

I do hope you DO feel marvelous after 14 weeks. it is awful having to get on and do stuff and being sick and tired. Kitchen cleaning is the worst.

Good luck Mrs Tittlemouse! Fingers crossed about the ms.

I have a free day today, dh stayed home, and is taking care of ds for the day and taken dd to school. So I can relax...allegedly. Its nice to not have much to do!

Congratulations mummoomin!

Read your post with interest and recognition. I was 15 weeks with DD when I found out - no symtoms at all until I started to burst out of my jeans and put 2 and 2 together, with the help of my much more astute DP!
I had done all the things you have done plus had a VERY alcoholic 40th birthday (my own so definitely no spring chicken ) and been to Amsterdam and sampled its delights!
DD is 5 on Friday and a real bright spark that we all struggle to keep up with so no damage done.

Enjoy the rest of your pg.

mummoomin I've been reading your threads, a really lovely tale of an unexpected but happy "mishap"! Have you told your other children yet? Do I remember from your other thread that they were teenage-ish? Bet they are going to be sooo excited...

Congratulations! With dd, I was living in Colombia and the only advice I got was not to walk up the stairs . I never found out the advice you get in UK, and happily ate my way through street food, raw fish, alcohol etc etc. DD is fine.
