Pregnancy

Is this a symptom of pregnancy...?

For the last few weeks, the top of one of my thighs has been going numb - not totally, but the skin isn't very sensitive, and it's like it's gone to sleep. Every now and then I also get a tingling/prickling sensation, or pins and needles - this has been happening every now and then throughout the day - I also have it sometimes when I wake up (doesn't seem to make any difference if I'm standing/sitting/lying). Is this something noirmal with pregnancy? Anyone else had this? Or should I go and see a doctor? It's not causing huge probs, but am just worried that its a sign of something more sinister?
Thanks x

is it at the back of your thigh?it sounds like it could be sciatica, which i suffered from in all of my pregancies(for the first and last few weeks),although i was told by my MW and doctor that it was absolutley not caused by pregnancy and was just a co-incidence.

sometimes it was a pain going from my right bum cheek and down the back of my leg, sometimes it was just a numbness.

No - it's down the front of my thigh - from about the middle, out to the side.

I hurt my back once and the middle of my thigh at the front felt like toothache, it does sound 'nervy' are you pg? I assume you are, could be positioning of baby or stretching of ligaments causing pressure on your back and therefore, odd symptoms down your leg, probably best to mention it to mw or GP.

I have had this experience where my skin has gone numb - gone to sleep. It wasn't my thighs though, it has always been my hips and surrounding area. It happened in my first pregnancy and now with this one too.

Mine tends to happen overnight when lying on my side and it wakes me all the time!

Don't know what could be causing either of our symptoms, though the sensations seem to be identicle, though I have had no pins and needles.

I would associate it with being overweight or heavily pregnant. I'm only of small build and only 20 weeks (hardly showing) and mines already started! so my theory has gone out the window.

I would go to your doc and get checked out, midwives tend to shrug things off as they can't really do anything for you...the doc can refer you to other experts etc.
Good luck with it and I hope it doesn't hinder your chances of having a happy pregnancy.

I've had this too, currently 20 weeks into 2nd pregnancy and I have a numb/"unsensitive" patch on my right thigh. It's really odd- I'm so aware of it because it just doesn't feel^ right! Can run my hand over it and I can feel my hand- then I can't feel it when it's going over the patch- then I can feel hand again when it reaches the other side. Most odd.

I had it in 1st pregnancy too, but that was a patch on my "stomach" just under my right boob. Both sensations have started early on in pregnancy (around 6/7 weeks) and think that last time it went fairly soon after ds was born, like within a few days.

I don't feel pins and needles, but nothing feels "nice" against it if that makes sense. FWIW, I get a similar sort of sensation when I'm coming down with a virus- the skin on my arms seems to be easily prickled but not as sesitive. If that makes any sense whatsoever either

I have this on the outside of my right thigh, its on one small patch and pretty much always there but i am MUCH more aware of it when i am in bed when it seems more severe.
it was my first pregnancy symptom in fact.
