I think i might be pg but not sure when to test as i can go 6 months without a period or have 2 in one week. Does anybody know when is the best time to test when you have no period date to go by?
Thanks

my periods were very irregular but every now and then I had to do a test and they were always negative-then 3 years down the line had 3 positives-cor 6 months that's a long time. To keep your mind at rest I would do one the if it's negative you can rule that option out

From what I remember, sperm can survive inside you for about 5 days but an egg for less than 1. If the egg is fertilised then it will take about 6 to 12 days to implant. It'll then take a few more days for sufficient hCG to be produced to give a positive pregnancy test (depending on how quickly you produce hCG and how sensitive a test you use).

So, you could get a positive test as early as 8 days after sex, (sex on day of ovulation and fairly quick implantation) but it could be as long as 19 (sex 5 days before ovulation, late implantation) days and if you don't want to take lots of tests you might want to wait it out.

Have you looked into any of the fertility awareness things? If you could get a handle on when you ovulate then you'd narrow down the times when you could be pregnant - which might save you quite a lot of tests.

Good luck

Hello - if you can remember when the deed happened, test 19 days after that. I also have very irregular periods and the 19 day thing worked for me - that is if you are sad enough to be able to pinpoint any bedroom activity!!!!!

You might want to get the period thing checked out, I was diagnosed with PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) last April, sounds awful but the worse thing about it is not being able to conceive which hopefully you already have done!

Good luck and let us all know what the outcome is, fingers crossed!!!

fwiw, my doc told me to test every three months.

Of course, I ignored her and tested every time I felt sick, went off coffee, had an irrational craving for strawberry smoothies... you know the kind of thing. They were all neg though

Hi littlemissmischief I too have endometriosis and have suppressed ovulation for over 7 years. I stopped taking my hormones 3 weeks before my wedding on 5 Oct and got a period on 17th. Turns out I got pregnant on my wedding weekend from the 12 week scan so maybe it's worth doing a test then if it's positive you can always get a more accurate dating later. I was told at 23 that I wouldn't have children and here I am at 34, up the duff on my first attempt!!

well done gillythekid im pleased for you,the i did a pg test yesterday and it was negative but i just keep thinking well atmost im 16 days so it might just not be enough hormone yet! When i got pg with my son by my dates i got pg on 30th Jan and i did a pg test on 26th and it was negative but on the 28th it was bfp so will maybe wait the same length of time
Why cant things just be simple hey? just wanna know either way really x
