Advice re holidays in late pregnancy

Hi All

I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant with no.2. We are hoping to go on holiday with friends to Aaran (island off the west coast of Scotland)in the summer. I'll be 35/36 weeks pregnant by then. We'll be a long way form home (we live in Bristol)but I feel quite happy about doing this. A couple of people I know have suggested that it might not be a good idea just in case I go in to labour early, have complications etc etc. I was 10 days late with my first, didn't get very big and wasn't uncomfortable until a few days before giving birth hence my relaxed attitude towards a holiday late in pregnancy. Aaran is hardly the third world either!

What do you guys think? Do you think I'm mad?

No, in your position I'd go too. 35/36 weeks is still a month from your due date so its very unlikely you'd go into labour . And Aaran is only just off the coast so I'm sure you could get to a big hospital pretty quickly if needed.

Take your maternity notes with you and go for it.

with my first i had a strong desire to stay close to home towards the end of my pregnancy. I had ds 3 weeks early, so what may be fine to you now, your feelings may change later... but, if you strongly want to go, i'm sure it would be fine, after all you may aswell be on holiday tired than at homelike wb said take your notes and hospital bag just in case

I'd say go for it. it is not as if you are off to a foreign country where you don't speak the language etc. Have fun!

We flew to Turkey when I was 7 months gone with DC1.
I was just within the latest dates to fly by days on the flight back.
I got some very funny looks in the pool etc, as if I should not have taken a holiday abroad at all wjhilst pregnant and got violated on hundreds of occaisions by locals trying to determine the baby's sex, but it was just the way there are there I guess.
Had a lovely time! Very pretty country.

I'm going on hols when I'm seven months (by ferry I hasten to add). Just make sure you take your notes (and a list of addresses and telephone numbers if you do need to call for help.

And hey, you can get the baby a jumper while you are there!

Went to Tunisia at 21/22 wks, felt great. Would have gone abroad again but i was too far along to travel by plane, so holidayed in this country about 200 miles from home. Was well and was 35 wks. Wasnt worried in the slightest.

I'm miserable Puss! MiL staying - she stayed two weeks before, she's been here two weeks so far and is staying at least another two. May well kill her soon. Trying to work out how to ditch DH and MiL on the way to Devon so we can run away and scoff tons of cake with our darling children!

If I have to bring her you'll recognise MiL, she's the one with the pointy hat and broomstick

Flew to Dublin at 33 weeks pregnant with first baby in the middle of summer!!! Had a lovely time!! To be honest, I enjoyed all the perks that being hugely pregnant got me, e.g. people offering seats for you, headstarts on tourist queues etc!! I did have to get a letter from doc stating I was ok to fly, but nobody at the airport asked me for it, despite the fact that I looked like I was having triplets!

Have a lovely time, Arran is gorgeous!!

She doesn't have anything left. SiL has swagged it all already (don't ask). The only wads she has left are made by Tena lady
