hello - can pregnant ladies have mascarpone cheese, I've got a right old hankering for a cheesecake and not sure if mascarpone is classed as one of the naughty soft cheeses? thanks

THe reason you're advised against soft cheese is because of the risk of listeria. The risk of getting listeria from eating soft cheese is not that high, the risk of listeria damaging a foetus exists but it is not an inevitable result of getting listeria... the risk assessment is up to you.

Mascarpone's fine, yes it's soft but then so's Dairylea. Just check that it says pasteurised on the packet but as far as I know it's absolutely on the ok list as it's processed. Go enjoy the cheesecake!

On the subject of cheese, is blue cheese okay if it is cooked (properly - ie in a quiche or in a sauce?)

Anything cooked to piping hot is fine. Even with pasteurised, avoid the mould-ripened ones like brie and camembert... (Found out the hard way but nothing happened, fingers crossed! Ha ha!).
