Hi, I'm only 10 weeks into my first pregnancy and have had 6 weeks of previously absent endometriosis pain. I have felt so wiped out and unable to do my usual hour of brisk walking or cycling every day. The pain has calmed down but the nausea has taken over and I'm eating more but moving around less. I have unbearable carb cravings and my blood sugar is all over the place, so much so, I'm waking in the early hours and having to eat weetabix in order to get back to sleep. I'm finding it hard to do up my jeans already. Spoke to my doctor yesterday who was crap, she said the more I eat, the more I'll need to eat as appetite is stimulated.
I expect to gain weight whilst pregnant but already look 6 months gone!!! Why can't I crave celery?

i was exactly the same! i dont think there was a minute in the day where i wasnt eating, and it wasnt 'healthy' foods either. its strange you have to eat when you need to eat and only what you crave! i wouldnt worry about it too much now as the eating small and often is good for your nausea. when the nausea starts to wear off then start eating sensibly again. Thats all i did. i pretty much burnt off all the excess weight from my first trimester in my second. Helpful Doctor? i think she means...if you eat a lot in one sitting then your stomach will stretch therefore 'making' you need to eat as much the next time, to feel satisfied. but if your eating a little and often then dont worry. what ever makes you feel less nauseous. good luck!

give yourself a break woman, you're growing a new person in there even at night hence the nocturnal carb cravings. Avoid the unhelpful doctor. Eat a varied diet but as much as you need to stop feeling hungry. You probably know this but you can stabilise your blood sugar by eating small amounts regularly and eating complex carbohydrates. And I think jeans are often the first thing that you grow out of. I was in mothercare early term jeans from 10 weeks but didn't get massive I promise you.

Also it is christmas and if you can't stuff your face at Christmas when you're pregnant then when will you be able to? Now go and have a mince pie on me - I insist

Oh for a mince pie!! I'm intolerant to eggs and cocoa so that rules out cake AND chocolate, but don't worry, I'm eating EVERYTHING else!!!
Thanks, have a lovely Christmas!!

I know this is maybe not great advice for those who are working, but sleep more is my advice. Being tired can trick brain into thinking body needs food by simulating similar symptoms to real hunger. I found that my nausea/hunger were both dramatically worse when I was tired. Thanks to a very sympathetic DP I slept for about 12 hrs a night from weeks 6 to 14!! Although I still had to walk alot as I can't drive and got to get DS1 to school! (1 mile walk)

Also force yourself to drink lots of water b4 you eat, this will stop you eating as much.

I'm 23 weeks and only gained 5 lbs so far. I am touching wood now!!! :O

I felt like that in my first pregnancy - it does pass eventually.

To balance your blood sugar, try banana sandwiches on wholemeal bread, milky drinks (I live on hot chocolate when I'm pregnant - it's better than mars bars but its filling and also has lots of protein).

BTW I gained four stone first pregnancy, didn't try to lose weight for six months post partum (felt too sorry for myself) but then lost three stone in two months and ended up smaller than I'd ever been. I'm pregnant again and the weight is not coming on as quick but I am much hungrier (I'm still breastfeeding though so I can eat for England and still not gain a pound).

You also need to up your fluids. I have massive insomnia again now I'm pregnant and yes you do get hungry in the night, it's not just you. GPs rarely know about the wide range of weird symptoms of pregnant women IME and are unwilling to change their views. You know what is right for you.

I really sympathise, I'm in my first pregnancy I had massive carb cravings and went off anything remotely healthy when I normally have a pretty good diet! I also stopped going to the gym as I was so tired I couldn't face it. Also I had the fear that I'd put on way too much weight over and above what I should until I started feeling better (that 12 week milestone really is true) and went back to the gym and found that actually I had put only 2kg. If you've been too scared to weigh yourself, have a go, you'll probably be suprised!
You will start to feel better soon, honest - I'm 18 weeks now and still waiting for emergence of proper bump (rather than just flab!) but I've definately got over the feeling of being too big too soon and I'm sure you will too.
Good luck!
