Oh, please help! Thrush and pg - pharmacist said nothing is suitable for pg women.

Is this true? He said no pessaries or tablets. I walked away thinking, "This man has never had thrush!". I have a 24 hr plane journey coming up and really don't want to be squirming the whole way. I am stuck with natural yoghurt only?

i was prescribed cream from dr's, they don't like to use pesseries before 12 weeks - you need to see dr for advice as pg imo i sympathise btw!

get some natural yoghurt and a towel. go lie on your bed smear it on your bits - read a book / watch telly for an hour - wash it off.

If it is still there tomorrow do the same thing.. sadly have had thrush alot - it works!

I was given caneston pessaries and cream by GP when I was about 7 months pg.
Oh the relief, I remember the Sunday night before the doctors clutching a bag of frozen peas to my itching bits to try and get some relief

Not true, ask to speak to your GP on the phone, I'm sure he/she will be able to prescribe cream. Probably more a case of pharmacist not being allowed to sell to pregnant women.

they handed out canestan pessaries like sweeties at my antenatal clinic.... can you ring your gp in the morning?

I had bucket loads of Canesten while being induced in hospital! (constant rough internals gave me nasty dose of thrush) was told it was quite safe...?

Just remembered that you do have to go through GP as when I had it with DS2 the pharmacist couldn't give me any. Seem to remember bening very naughty and sending DH to get some as I knew it had been OK first time round.

There are also some other milder pessaries you can use, based on youghurt, but I cant remember the name, so I am not much use.

No way!! I had thrush at about 35 weeks, chemist wouldn't sell me it over the counter so I went to Docs and they prescribed tablets and cream.

Thinking of the relief now makes me go all dreamy...................

I had the pessary and cream from GP - 32-33 weeks as I recall

Oh ladies, thank you! Thing is, I am way way too busy to go to GP's, prob wouldn't get an appt. anyway. Might send Dh round... until then, yoghurt I guess.
Do these things ever resolve themselves naturally if you do nothing?

you should do as advised by the others on this thread, but for the future i have been using a product called bio-fem active gel. I use it if i feel like i'm gonna get thrush (it can be used every 3 days as a preventative according to website) just checked and can be used in pregnancy and has been a godsend! cannot recommend it highly enough. Have also used it when i have been using tablets etc for thrush (before i was pregnant) and really eases the problem. You should give it a try!

what tosh!
the pharmacist won't give it to you, but doc will!
i had it when 34 weeks gone with ds2, i was in agony.
i stood/writhed at the counter clutching £15 and the smarmy little dick said no, not while your preggers.
so i booked an emergency appt. at the docs then went back with my prescription and said 'now give me the gear, free and all!'

i was so mad.

my fanjo was raw from all the rubbing!

I started using pessaries from about 5 weeks pregnant, prescribed by my gp and then by my obstertrcian at 7 weeks. It's fine to use at any stage in pregnancy but parmacists won't give it to you when pregnant so I would send dp if I had to and didn't have time to go to the docs. It will not go away by it's self and will keep getting worse if left untreated. Yoghurt may work for you but it depends on how bad it is.

jennifersofia · 13/12/2007 21:00

Right - still haven't got the stuff (haven't seen dh hardly as working so much) though actually I think I might just go in and not tell them I am pg.
Is one tablet / pessary all I need? How long does it take to work and get rid of it?

Getting fed up of the yoghurt routine ..(eww!cold!).
Thanks again for all your expert advice (I will come on here first before going to pharmacist next time!)
