Braxton Hicks, what do they feel like?

I'm 36 wks and first time mum to be, just wondering if any of you more experienced ladies could tell me what Braxton Hicks contractions feel like? Have been having lots of "movements" but not sure if its just baby moving around. Also, were you aware of when baby became engaged. My little one has been permanently low, with head down, so not sure if I'll be able to tell the difference.
Thanks in advance.

When you feel slight pulling sensation around your middle and your tummy goes hard. Then it gradually eases off. Don't know how long for exactly, but not for long - varies probably. I think some woman have stronger ones than others.

BH: your tummy suddenly goes rock hard and you feel it tightening all over, can be a bit uncomfortable but not painful. Not everyone gets them though so don't worry if you don't! Lasts about a minute or so (ime).

I was never aware that the baby had become engaged, maybe because I carry quite low too. I always had to rely on the mw telling me "4/5ths engaged" or whatever.

How exciting!

same as above really, IMO you'll know when you're having BH. I've been having them regular since 35 weeks, bumps goes rock hard and feel the need to breath through them but not painfull.

Only midwife can say for definate when head engaged, but even though it's my first I could swear I could tell, felt a 'drop' lower down and coincided with going to loo much more often! was at the mw 2 days later and was right - smarty pants!x

I had roughly the same experience as snooks, except they only lasted for half a minute. A strong tightening sensation, sort of like a painless cramp all round the bump. Uncomfortable but bearable.
