allergy during pregnancy

For the first three months of pregnancy I was sick and stopped drinking milk. I started again around the 4th and now am at the start of the 6th month and I seem to have some sort of allergy on my face which could be due to the milk. I get kind of red blobs with a tiny raised area that turns into a kind of rash and then remains as a spot. Any advice? I started drinking soy milk but hated it although the rash improved. I've now started drinking goats milk but it looks like it is coming back. Any advice - I just love drinking milk!

I developed lactose intolerance in all of my pregnancies to some extent. Don't know what to suggest. There are so many other foods to avoid in pregnancy, maybe this is just one of them for you. I drank soy milk and ate lots of brocoli for calcium.

Hi lljkk, Did you get a rash from lactose intolerence? Someone told me that rashes are usually caused by an allergy to the protein in milk rather than lactose intolerance. What are the symptoms of lactose intolerance? Lactose is in goats milk too and I seem to be allergic to that too. Did you have a blood test to confirm it?

I never had a formal diagnosis or tests or rash, I just found I quickly vomitted up any milk products, except usually by the third trimester, I was ok with cooked and mature cheeses in which (lactose intolerant friend tells me) the lactose is mostly broken down. I think my stomach just lost the ability to deal with lactose-laden stuff.

In the current pregnancy I have recovered enough to eat most milk products okay. In normal life I love cheese and have no problems with any milk products, so this was quite hard for me to avoid for most of 3 pregnancies, but so be it.

I really think you're stuffed, just give up on all milk products until after the birth. Someone who knows more about allergies than me should comment, but I have the vague impression that if you have a sensitivity in pregnancy you're more likely to pass it on to the fetus (the womb environment may be especially likely to respond to your temporary condition). And a rash is a pretty strong reaction you're having, you don't want the poor kid having a problem with milk products if you can help it.

Yes, you are probably right about the risk for the fetus. I hadn't really thought about that and I certainly don't want her having problems with milk products. Now I have started noticing - milk seems to be in nearly everything I want to eat. I'll have to find alternative food so I get enough vitimins, and I'll try going back to soy milk. The funny thing is that I have no problems digesting milk or milk products just this stupid rash on my face! If anyone else has any more advice I'd love to hear it.
Thanks again
