Hyperemesis- thought I'd avoided it this time round but not...advice needed!

I'm 7 wks pg with dc2. My morning sickness is now morphing into the hyperemesis I'd suffered all the way through my first pregnancy (my lovely son is now 2.10)

I know the drill, I'll be sick more and more frequently until I can't even swallow my own saliva without vomiting bits of my stomach lining and bile. But is there any point in calling NHS direct to get a dr to come out when they will just say "well its only morning sickness at the moment"

They're right but I know the slippery slide I'm on and it will only be a few days before I can't remember my own date of birth

Do I call or just wait until I actually have hyperemesis? Really unsure. Any thoughts gratefully received!

My doctor gave me some anti-vomiting pills and they worked wonders - take one before you eat and have a gallon of gaviscon for pudding and heypresto, no more being sick!
It's worth asking about anyway!
good luck

Hi PK616

Last time I went through about 5 different drugs, including suppositories before they found one to work. Stemetil, cyclazine are the ones I can recall not working and Zofran (ondansetron) was the only one that worked.

Which ones have done the trick for you? Hopefully the first one you tried

Just wondering if I ask Dr for them now, before the vomiting dehydrates me beyond belief (i.e. prevention) or wait until I am really ill and need immediate treatment before going to the surgery (cure. Ish.)

Well looks like my mind is made up, NHS direct are very busy and only taking emergency calls. I will wait until Monday and see how it goes.

I can't find the bottle to give you the name of the pills I was given I'm afraid.

I'd go to the docs first thing monday (hope you can cope til then) and ask for the Zofran.

If you have problems before that call the maternity ward at your local hospital and explain your predicament, they may be able to prescribe you a couple of days worth to get you through till you can get to the doctors.

I second PK. I'd try and get treatment ASAP. I'm just recovering from HG with my first baby and this is my contingency plan for no.2!

I'd forgotten what it was like to be truthful. Rose tinted specs and all that. I have vowed that we are stopping at no. 2!

It's strange I feel fine if I am eating, but the second I stop (which I have to at some point) I throuw it all up again. I'm soo thirsty too but the liquid just comes back up quicker than food. Grrr.

Dr's first thing tomorrow it is.

Thanks ladies for support xx
