Just what I said, really, 37 weeks now and wondering whether I should start sitting on a towel on our beautiful and very impractical linen sofa Bought, needless to say, before marriage was on the cards, never mind babies!!!

IME you get a teeny bit of warning because you feel something go "pop" so you can rush to stand on a tiled floor or something! FWIW, I was in bed (but made it to the bathroom in time) when my waters broke with DS1, and in the kitchen (wooden floor) when it happened with DS2 (although half an hour earlier I'd been on a bus home from the West End). They never really went in a big gush with DS3.

lol

I feel your pain! With both the DD's though my waters were broken by the midwives in hospital as contractions started first.

My DH wants to cover my new mattress in clingfilm!

DD - waters broke in delivery suite, spontaneously, at 40 weeks, during labour, when i got to about 6- 7 cm, a couple of hours before she was born

Mine were broken for me to induce labour, but I think some more went (I hope) when I was throwing up about 5 mins later, or I majorly pissed myself

My waters broke when I was in hospital, about 4 hours into labour.
No pop, no warning, just a warm dribble down my leg.

With ds1 I got up to go to the loo in the middle of the night and they went on the way back to the bedroom. Fortunately we had a laminated bathroom floor. Second and third times they went whilst on the labour ward sitting in one of the beds - somebody else's problem to clean up fortunately . I did also manage to soak a midwife and half a delivery suite when in labour with ds2 - he should have come out on a surf board .

My tip would be to buy some pampers bed mats for wrapping round your sofa and sitting on in the car. I did that last time as a just in case measure.

I got the pop noise too, then a 'gulg gulg' noise and sensation (like when you empty a bottle that has a narrow neck) I was lie in bed a the time I then stood up and it gushed everywhere.
The 2nd time I think in hospital in labour because I dont remember

Mine went in bed and there was LOADS (none of this "I thought I had wet myself" nonsense from me!) so glad I had put mattress protector on. No pop though, absolutely no warning.

I have never seen DH move so fast as when I said to him (he was nearly asleep) "DH, my waters have broken". Makes me laugh every time I remember.

With dd1 in labour at the hospital

With dd2 they didn't - well only after her head was born. She was born in her membranes - supposed to be lucky!

My waters broke as I was just getting up from sofa, but there wasn't more than it wet my trousers but not the floor.

I had been having contractions for a good while though already...

Mine went in my living room as I bent over to pick something up but it wasn't a huge gush - it was more like when you've had a bath and taken on water ( .... or perhaps that's just me!) Then continued as a trickle for about 8 or 9 hours.

We were just on our way out to a BBQ and in laws were with us (Thank God or the crib would never have been put together!)

Abandoned the BBQ and went to Morrisons instead... very surreal walking round the supermarket thinking "I'm in labour"!

DD1 on the sofa (sorry) more like I had wet myself a steady trickle.

DD2 on my bed when I was fully dilated, broke my MWs (homebirth)

With DS I was in hospital anyway (had been in for a few days). Was asleep and had a really vivid dream about two snooker balls hitting together. Then flooded the bed . Felt glad it was the hopsital one and not mine. That was at 38+2.

With DD I think they got broken for me when I was in labour - definitely not like it was with DS.

With DS1 in the birth pool at the hosp, with DS2 they didn't!!
He was born in the bag.
He came out into the water and waiting MW was like 'Oh?'
'What?, WHAT WOMAN?! Is he alright?'
'Yes, I need to 'open' him that's all'
