Grobags vs sheets & blankets

What are people's preferences on this? I'd welcome your thoughts as trying to choose what to buy. I suppose the main advantage of a sleeping bag is that they can't kick it off. Do those who have bought sleeping bags prefer them? TIA

Sleeping bags. Was evangelical about them when DS was of an age...

Only problem was that I started with two winter bags, then bought 2 larger ones when he was bigger, and had summer versions of them as well. So I must have bought 6 or maybe 8 all together. But sooooo much better than blankets.

You need at least two in case they're sick.

We used gro bags on all 3 dc as none of them ever stayed ( stay!!!) still for more than a second until deeeply asleep. now ds and dd1 are older they are in duvets and i wish there was a bigger equivalent as i have to go in after they have fallen asleep and tuck them back up. i have found gro bags brilliant and couldn't reccommend them more highly - ...........but then again that's just my opinion, I'm sure others may say differently

Grobag, grobag, grobag!!! No decision to be made . Perfect for those night feeds too, just feed in the bag and pop them down again.

Absolutely love them, it becomes part of the bedtime routine they can't kick the covers off or wriggle down under them. Absolutely fab, you do need a couple at a time though for when they're ill or snotty!

Definitely go for sleeping bags! Tons easier than blankets, and you get peace of mind that they can't pull them over their face. Have used them with all 3 of my children.

newborns - blanets for swaddling, you can't use a grobag until they are a ceetain weight
Then after that grobags all the way.

sleeping bags for my three dds here. DD1 was a nightmare for keeping covers on in SCBU she did everything she could to get her arms and feet out of layers of blankets - and she managed. Dd1 loved her sleeping bags and so the others got them too. Brilliant. I think they finally get a blanket/duvt when they graduate to a big bed although have had them in sleeping bags in big bed too.

It is my new baby present choice just in case the new parents don't think they need one

we got away with about 4 altogether, if sick made do with sheets etc. but gro bags wash and dry easily so always back on for next night. they also last forever so have been through 3 dc in total so worth the investment

Grobags all the way! They can be a bit pricey as Peaches says, you need a spare of everything and different togs, but I think you can get them cheaper on eBay.

Also having tried a couple of cheaper brands, personally I prefer branded Grobags, they are 100% cotton unlike some cheaper ones and just, well, nicer. But that is just my opinion!

The grobags are amazing, my little girl moves from one end of the cot to the other over the course of an hour and none of us would get any sleep if we used blankets. You will need 2 though particularly if your baby is little and or sicky!

I'm with clutteredup! Cant recommend them highly enough! ds is never still, not even in his sleep! he would never be covered up if we relied on sheets/blankets etc! Also i think the growbags are much safer - no risk of him suffocating.

you can get newborn grobags now but we didn't use them straight away....about 3 weeks for dd2

i bought sleeping bags and never used them really!

ds' bedroom is too hot for them except for in winter. also once he learned to stand he didn't like being in a grobag.

I never heard of grow bags when I had ds but being a childminder now who's had at least 4 babies who napped with growbags and/or had them for overnight stays, I'm definitely having them for this one They are FAB - stops kicking covers off, stops feet getting stuck in bars etc.

And the ones with the hole in the back are great if you have a long car journey, so you can have the baby in the car seat in his/her grobag and transfer straight to bed. I've just bought my TENTH grobag! (but have given the smaller ones to my sis for when her DD can use them)

Now see here is the problem - as with all things - it depends on the LO! DS started with blankets, moved briefly to sleeping bags, really didn't like them, and was on to a duvet at 12mths (still sleeps wrapped around his duvet, but then so do I ). DD on the other hand was in sleeping bags from day 1, still is at 12mths, and always wakes up at the other end of the cot bed from where she started - and she feels the cold, so I think I would be up several times a night to tuck her back in if she was in blankets.

So, to the OP, if your Nan is buying bedding, yes get a couple of sleeping bags, but cellular blankets come in useful anyway for naps/car/chilly baby in pushchair/improvised playmat so get a couple of those too!
