Going into Labour - Just In Case!!

OK - I am due 14th November and want DP to be there and to be sober and help me through it all (although I feel like it will be the other way around!!)

So when do I curtail his movements and his consumption of alcohol??

He is only likely to be at Twickenham or at Highbury or out on 21st October having a huge drink up with one of his pals who always returns him unable to walk or talk!!

When do I put a stop to his merry making and is me saying to him that he can't get too plastered on the 21st being a bit over cautious (he gets drunk about 6 times a year always with this one guy though!!) He is good and nice and not a piss head so please don't get the wrong end of the stick!!

It's highly unlikely you'd go into labour that early. Not impossible or unheard of, but unlikely!

Not really sure Twinkie! I tried to stop DP drinking too much (he's not an alcholic btw) about 4 weeks before my Due date - however, he went out twice between then and me having DD (1 week late) and promised to only have 4 pints and then drink soft drinks.
Needless to say he came in absolutely ratarsed on both occassions so i'm probably not the best person to comment!

I'm sure your DP will e a good lad though and do as he is told by the Twinkmeister

I think 21st Oct is early enough in advance to clock up the Brownie points you'll get for saying 'oh no, darling, do go'. After that, you've got the advantage in saying wistfully 'well, this baby - YOUR baby, darling - is due any minute now, you know'

Two weeks either side of the due date seems reasonable - can't be completely off his head, but if he has a drink or two, that's OK. That's what I would say - just threaten him with 'you won't be able to be at the birth if you are pissed' and that should sort him out.... I had to go into hospital for an early bleed last time which co-incided with dh piss up night and I refused to let him come as he was too pissed. A friend came with me. He said - what if you deliver the baby - I said - we'll give you a call - but I am not having you rampaging around the hospital drunk as its not fair on me or the other mums to be.

Didn't have any trouble after that little scare!!!!

Yep - i told Dp that if i went into labour whilst he was out on the lash and he turned up and the hospital steaming i wouldn't let him in the room and would tell the nurses to get him out.

Even that didn't work, but it might in your case!

I was told by our NCT teacher that 95% of babies arrive within one week either side of the due date. I found that hugely reassuring, not that my dp was out and about much!
