Sharp, stabbing pains when baby moves- is this normal?

Hi
I am 38+1 and for the last day or so whenever the baby moves (mainly low movements) it creates a blooming painful stabbing/ sharp pain down below. (almost as if I am really constipated- pain felt in front and back. Not really constipated though...) Is this normal? I think its happening because either a. its dropped/ engaged or b. its the start of labour? However, don't want to dismiss it as one of the above in case its not normal.
Anyone got any ideas/advice?
Thanks
PPS x

Hiya PPS!

Not sure what it could be but I do remember getting all sorts of twangs and things when I was having DD1. Would it be worth mentioning it to your mw? When will you next see her?

Oh glad you're seeing the mw on Thurs but if you're worried it might be worth calling her before then. My mw doesn't mind seeing me quickly to check everything's OK and reassure me if need be. How long does it last for and is it very often?

I've been better thanks but I keep telling myself that it'll all be worth it when I hold this LO in my arms!

i do remember seeing a post about it not long ago here but now i cant find it!

i will be watching your thread to see if i get my mystery answered too

Hiya PPS,

I get those pains when I'm walking - feels like someone is stabbing me right up there with a needle! The baby's movements hurt sometimes too, but mainly round my hips, as if it's tapping its fingers on my bones

I got told yesterday that the baby is 3/5ths engaged now, and the MW says this is prob the source of the pains. Not sure if they are quite the same thing as you're getting though?

I'm just resigned to the fact that the last 6 weeks or so of pregnancy is bloody uncomfortable whichever way you look at it!

I'm 29 weeks today so I think I'm officially in my third 'trimester' but I get confused about the whole weeks/month thing. We've got loads to do but I've just finished work so I'm hoping to attack it all with a vengeance once I get some energy lol!

Glad it has flown for you and that you're ready! Now you can get on and wait for the arrival!

((hugs))
