What will they do? do they always give you belt first or straight onto crutches?

It depends on how bad it is. They have lots of good advice about lying/sitting/getting up, etc, which is really helpful. I had a couple of belts before crutches and hated them all. Crutches are damn inconvenient!
Good luck

I had a belt and was given some exercises to do to strengthen the area. Sympathies, SPD is pants.

They'll probably ask you to do a few things to see how severe it is at the moment. First stage usually is to give you a big tubeygrip or a belt for support unless it's really severe already.

They'll also give you tips about how best to roll over and get out of bed without it hurting so much; how to sit and lie to ease the pain, etc.

Mine was worse on one side.

Same here, you poor thing! Mine was really bad but has calmed down a lot since I came out of work and get more rest. These days it only bothers me if I walk more than a couple of hours, which I tend not to do because it means I'm laid up for a day or two afterwards.

I have mentioned to the doctor about getting some kind of support or physiotherapy but he just said "wait and see how bad it gets first" which sounds ominous! Let us know how your physio goes, and if it helps at all.

Would you get signed off work?

I had a belt last time from physio. It helped up to a point. Stopping work helped a lot (I was on my feet all day). Osteopathy also helped but I've since heard a chriopractor can be more help for SPD.

I had crutches, then a wheelchair from them, and a cushion to sit on - fat lot of good it did me! I went to an osteopath and he fixed me. You have to go a few times though.

If they put me on crutches i dont think my boss would let me work, as too risky, but then she bound to sign me off at 29 weeks to start mat leave rather than 36 as agreed

I had belt then crutches then a wheelchair & was off on leave from week 24. That was 1st time round. Am now in my 2nd pregnancy, am 22 weeks, not had any pain yet but am seeing a McTimoney Chiropractor every month & will see her more often if the SPD rears its ugly head in this pregnancy. I would so strongly reccommend seeing a chiro or osteopath that knows about the condition. I remember the agony & distress but these pregnancies have been so different & I am sure its because I have got the correct treatment. If you are just going to have physio then insist on someone who knows about it, very few of them have an interest in SPD so phobe you off, mainly because it is still an unknown within the NHS of how it should be treated. Sadly some doctors do not recognise that SPD can be eased with treatment so may tell you it wont work. I listened to them the 1st time even though I had a chiro telling me how she could help to ease the SPD, I so wish now that I had gone to see her when I remember all the pain & medictaions I ended up on.
Please let us know how you get on, if you live in Hampshire I can put you in touch with some people who can help. Shamefully chiros & osteos are not avaliable on the NHS but it is worth every penny.
Thinking of you & really hope this hasnt come across as negative or bossy.

I had much more pain on one side that the other. I got a belt and some exercises. The exercises really helped me a lot, it still hurts but at least I can walk for more than a few metres without limping!!

How did you get on, lisa?

What to do? Count yourself lucky - in my area they'll only do appointments over the phone, if you're lucky enough to get through

Seriously though, good luck. Hope they can sort you out.
