berolina has had yet another bleed and the pleasure of a day in hospital <weary sigh>

Woke up this morning and it was literally running out of me. Was a bit scared but not overly so as I knew about the placenta praevia. Got to hospital, by which time it had all but stopped. Fortunately no contractions . Have only had a tiny amount of bleeding (considerably less than a normal period) since and so they let me come home this evening. Baby is fine - as ever, big relief. They think my gynaecologist's insistence on doing a smear at a routine check yesterday might have caused the bleed. So am back to square one again - oh, and this time the doctor said it's probably 'only' a partial pp after all (but of a type probably making vaginal delivery pretty risky). I'll work completely from home next week. Am feeling a mixture of utter fed-up-ness, worry that worse is round the corner, and relief that it isn't worse so far.

yes HC, a smear... I was already on the chair, she said 'oh, while we're here we should do one', me: 'well, actually, my last gyn [have moved] did one when I was 11 weeks, the report is somewh...', she: 'that was it, all finished already' . Less than 24 hours later the bleed. I've always found her very competent and reassuring, so tbh am reeling a bit.
Thanks for your good wishes. Am venturing out with a taxi to go and look at/try out a piano this afternoon so something to cheer me up.

(should add she was my gyn when we lived here before, so have known her several years)

you had a smear, and you have placenta previa! what planet is your gynae on ,exactly???????

glad you and baby are ok, but i bet you could do with a week or two of no drama...

take it easy x

I could, couldn't I? A friend I told about it has advised me to change doctors, but tbh can't do with the hassle, and am a bit worried about 'frying pan/fire' iyswim. So am just going to go to the hospital with future problems - it's nearer home, the staff are all fantastic and I'll be giving birth there anyway.

Come to think of it, my last big bleed was the day after a check at that gyn too.

Why on earth is your gynae doing a SMEAR?!!! When I had pp there were no internal exams. Please take it easy and no more internals of any kind, please!

I really, really don't know, Aloha. It has actually made me rather worried the more I think about it. It won't have caused an abrupton (or if it had they would have seen it on the scan at the hospital, or it would have been painful, or both), would it?

And I am pretty bothered that she didn't really bother waiting for me to give her the go-ahead, but just did it. Technically assault, I suppose.

Honestly, I wouldn't see her any more. It sounds really negligent to me. Or stupid. Or both. It won't have caused any harm if the bleeding is stopped, but a PP bleed isn't fun at all and you must have been scared. I know the feeling.

It was horrid - I knew what was probably going on so was quite calm, and even ended up talking to the ambulanceman about climate change, but I still had this quiet panic 'OMG I'm going to haemorrhage' rising in me.

She's actually away for 6 weeks as of next week volunteering in a developing country, so maybe I could quietly look around for someone else while she's gone.

Glad you are ok. I thinking looking around for another gyne really might be a good idea.

it's the speed of the blood that freaked me. No pain, no sound except the sound of blood pinging off the floor. It's like a tap has been turned on. Really, you shouldn't have been given a smear at all. PP is a fragile condition. Good luck!

It is exactly like that. And so freaky becauseof there being no other symptoms.

Thanks
