Wedding outfit at 37 weeks...

OK ladies... suggestions desparately required please...

I have said that we will go to a wedding in Brighton when I am 36/7 weeks pregnant. The million dollar question is - what on earth can I wear???

I know it sounds mean but I begrudge buying a maternity outfit that I will never ever have any use for again but can't imagine what else I could do.

There is going to be quite a lot of walking involved - register office to reception is quite a distance, so said outfit needs to be comfy, smart and possibly re-usable post baby...

arrgghhh.. methinks accepting the invitation was a silly idea...

I also said to DH that it would be wise to take my hospital bag, notes and 1st stage car seat and he thought I was being silly - what would you do?

How about hiring an outfit or maybe searching for one on e-bay. You can then re-sell it on e-bay afterwards.

Honey when are you going?

I have a couple of dresses that could suffice (A black one or a pucci print one) but won't be back from hols till August 7th!! (Oh they will be a 12 or a 14!!)

I would say one of those really stretchy ghost-stle dresses which will shrink back into shape and you can wear it afterwards. I think the larger House of Frasers sell ghost and they are in the sale right now!

And take the baby stuff. Tell him lots of babies are two to three weeks 'early' -don't know the statistic, but you can make one up
(My dd2 was 16 days early)

Have a quick look on the October 2004 Moose Massive thread, some of the lovely ladies there have been giving me loads of ideas for the same problem

What size are you?
You might find someone has something you can borrow.
I went to a wedding in France a couple of weeks ago (at 35.5 weeks) and wore a fairly plain, long brown linen dress from Formes which I already had.
I too was buggered if I was going to spend money at that stage on a never wear again number.

Remember your friends want you there not your wardrobe. I'm sure they'll be thrilled that you've made the effort to attend even if you wear your jeans.

And, yes, at 37 weeks I would probably take your bag. How far away will you be?

I just sold a once-worn maternity wedding outfit on ebay - may be worth a look? I paid over £120 for an outfit I wore once so I think you are very wise not to do that. If you can't find anything, could you just wear something smartish out of your existing maternity clothes and dress it up with some new jewellery, shoes, a bag? Those are all things you can use afterwards. I agree - it's YOU they want at the wedding not some fashion plate model for heavily pregnant maternity wear!

I went down to Wales at 36 weeks pregnant - and I took my notes! We were there a week and I had ds2 at 37+5 so it was very close! You'll have an overnight bag anyways so I don't thnk you need to take baby stuff - there's bound to be a nearby Mothercare and people would rally round I bet.

I have a wedding at 36 weeks and have found a lovely grey/blue linen dress from Mamas & Papas (bought it two weeks ago), V neck, long, sleeveless (plan to use cream pashmina with it) -costs £55....lots of room for bump

I went to a very hot summer wedding when I was 37 weeks and thought sod'em I'm not spending a forturne!

I bought a stretchy sort of bias cut skirt, black background and pinkish little flowers on it from Blooming marv. and a pink beaded sleeveless tshirt, plus a chiffon stole. It looked fine (though I'm sure I looked like a whale!)

Mind you it wasn't that posh a wedding.

Not much to add to the outfit advice. Go to H&M and get some throwaway stuff.

But DO take your notes etc. I had dd at 37 wks. My friend had her baby in Brighton, they all sounded lovely her dh was told to twiddle her nips when the contractions stopped which is more fun than a section (like me). Have fun.

Thanks all - great advice.

I think I am just going to wear black slacks and a floaty type top. The wedding isn't exceptionally smart.

Problem on the day is that it coincides with the Gay Pride Parade - 90000 people in Brighton. I don't think it will be possible to get a cab anywhere at lunchtime on the day.

Normally we aren't much more than an hour away (Bromley to Brighton isn't too bad) but I think the traffic will be awful.

Definitely taking my bag and the car seat in case. Can you imagine - Baby Brighton Dejags...
