can someone please remind me why we're not supposed to wear wired bras during pregnancy?
I'm sure I must have been told when pregnant with DS but i cant remember and my colleague is asking me.
thanks

think it's because you change shape so rapidly the wires can very quickly be in the wrong place digging in. It'll make you sore for sure, but i'm almost sure I read somewhere it can give you a cyst - old wives tale maybe? hopefully someone more knowledgable will come along in a minute!

No more knowledge really, just that they can interfere with the construction of the milk factory and anyway, the mat. bras are lovely and very fetching so..... ahem.

so if it's for the milk ducts sake then i guess she can wear wired bras for a while huh? When do the ducts start making an appearance (she's only newly pregnant so her boobs haven't even got bigger yet)

I remember they suddenly got agonisingly painful at about 13 or 14 weeks, when I swapped to v alluring sports bras for the rest of the time (then straight into feeding bras - lucky, lucky dh!)

So I would guess that you do get a warning shot of pain before any damage is done, but that is not based on any actual facts or science.

Think you can carry on wearing them as long as they are comfortable, not sure, don't quote me but I think it is a problem when they are ill fitting. Still (20 weeks) wearing mine, all the mat bras I have poke themselves out the top of all my tops, so I have decided to protect the world for a while longer...! My boobs haven't dramatically expanded yet anyway .

my OB says it's an old wives tale - but they must fit properly

I'm still wearing wired bras, but I've been measured and gone up a few sizes so they fit properly. I had a row of the fitting woman in M&S the other day for wearing them, but I think as long as they don't dig in or restrict anything then they're okay until breastfeeding.
Does anyone know where I can get a a comfortable, non wired bra that gives support though? I've been looking at nursing bras and all the ones I've tried have either been soft cotton and my boobs seem to flop over the chestband, or the ones with seams right across the nipples - ouch! I need support as I'm a D cup, but not that big that I could buy specialist bras. Recommendations anyone? Thanks

Fantasie have some non-wired ones that are quite good - they did have some that just had a bit of wire between the cups only which can help with shape. Try bravissimo who I think stock them, if not John Lewis and Debenhams usually have Fantasie in stock.

I've just read that colostrum usually appears around 16 weeks or so - I'm just 17 weeks now.
I'm still wearing wired bras - wore them up until 6 months or so with dd and I fed with no problems. Can't find any decent nonwired bras that fit and feel good! Luckily I'm only an A ( that's after getting much bigger!!)

is it Ultimo that do non-wired "uplift" bras?

Sorry to hijack, but can anyone recommend sexy-ish nursing bras (I'd like to feel human when I get round to BF!)
