prams and ebay

Am freaking out slightly at the cost of prams (I am pregnant) and wondered wether anyone has any experience of
a) buying a second hand pram and
b) buying it from ebay?
I really like the mammas and pappas pliko pram as it would fit in my rather small car and I like a baby to be in a proper pram for a while (very old fashioned I know!)
Any tips gratefully received....

Check out your local paper, there are always loads for sale. Not old fashioned, personal choice. Good idea buying second hand though because you will change your mind six times as to which pram is the best before your child is one!

pliko pramette is a good one

if buying from ebay look for a good established seller with good feedback.

the pliko covers can all come off and be washed.

Check out your local charity shops too. I saw a great 3 wheeler for £15 the other week. I got my Urban Detour off the flea market, a woman sells ex display stuff, for £80 3 years ago and I love it.

Are you a member of your local Freecycle group too? You have to give something away first but I'm sure you can find something that you won't need in your new life as a mum! Our ante natal unit also has adverts up...

I have bought 2 second hand prams from ebay. One was single chicco xs or something which was great and the other I just got this morning which is a Phil and teds E3. I tend to do my research first for what I want so go and try it out in shop etc then as others have said go for a decent feedback seller. Would also say however if you have the energy check out car boot sales.

can i just say that the whole 'online' attitude to buying prams is what causes all these pram changes! I have been there, done that and got the t-shirt! If you actually went to your local independant nursery retailer they would help go through the minefield of prams and explain the differences and what you would be looking for according to your lifestyle! (and i'm not talking about mothercare/john lewis/babies'r'us- small nursery shops, most are better priced than the chainstores and actually care about their customers!)

and as for going to a shop to try the pram out and then buying it online don't you think thats a bit cheeky? the shop you have just walked into and mauled their pram has bills and wages to pay and they have to keep display models in stock so that ignorant buffoons can come in and check them out before going to kiddicare!

sorry to rant but i really think that you have to accept that if you want to save a few quid and get it online then you are buying blind.

ebaysevil take it you are calling me an ignorant baboon...the reason I have bought prams via ebay is because there is no way I could afford to buy them new!!! We dont all have money to go into the local small nursery shop and spend a lot of money on a pram. I bought 2nd hand prams to save them being dumped and I paid £25 for the single one and £200 for the phil and teds which I only bought as a normal double which we were bought as a gift wont fit through my bloody front door. Before you jump on your high horse maybe think why some people do use ebay!!

I think buying baby stuff second hand is a great thing to do! And EBAY is a great place to do it... so long as you check details carefully, make sure pet free and smoke free home etc... My neighbour bought her bugaboo from ebay and she's over the moon with it. NCT second hand sales are good too. Car boot sales really are good places- I tried to sell a load of baby stuff at a car boot sale, only to realise that half the stalls were selling baby stuff too. I ended up getting rid of stuff for pennies just because I didnt want to take it home again. And it was very decent stuff!
(Duh, i am now expecting baby number 3! whoops!)

fine- buy secondhand from ebay but don't as you say "try it out in shop" before doing it! our local nursery shop sees this every day and i feel really sorry as she is a great woman and very well priced, maybe you think its okay but i think its distgusting to use shops like that.

would you go into a restaurant ask for a dish then when it arrives turn round and say- "okay, i've seen it now, i'm off to make it at home!"

becaroo I recently bought a M&P pliko from ebay and really pleased with it and saved lots of money. No point spending 100s of £s on a brand new one as I certainly change my mind on buggies all the time. I tried out different models in the shops like nemo2007 - don't listen to ebaysevil, if you want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on a brand new one then fine, but no harm in going to local retailer to try them out. agree that you need to buy from a seller with good feedback. good luck and enjoy your shopping online!
