amniocentisis in London?

Hoping someone can recommend a centre for amniocentisis. My risk is on the cutoff between high and low. Am new to the UK and London. Just returned from Oz - would have been offered an amnio there only needed to return to London. Any suggestions (and info on there risk rate would be good!)

Anyone else been borderline?? What did you do? It's a hard one, isn't it.

I went to the fetal medicine centre in Harley street who are excellent. I didn't have the amnio but had a CVS there. It is very calm and professional and the results are quick.

I had the CVs for peace of mind as during my first pregnancy I worried for 6 months and don't regret having it done at all.

Re the risk rate - they are only allowed to quote the national average of 1% but if you ring and have a chat they will tell you mc is very rare.

Prof Nicolades is the chap who does the amnio/CVS and he is considered the best in his field (he invented the nuchal fold test).

Would highly recommend.

Thanks Incy. I had a glance at their site yesterday. Just gave them a call and booked for an appointment to discuss further.
You're right - the worrying is the worst part of pregnancy I think. I'm glad yours was all ok.

Good luck Auschick. I think with regards to the test you have to weigh the risk of the procedure v's the stress/worry for the rest of your pregnancy.

I was very worried about having a CVS but it was really straightforward - it took about a minute - he put a needle in my tummy drew out whatever he needed and it was not at all painful. Just like having bloods taken.

When I asked about resting for the next couple of days (I was rather looking forward to this bit) I was told not to worry and carry on as normal. In fact Prof N pointed out I had to cook and clean for my husband so no choice really (I think he is a bit of a joker).

Had the test on Wednesday morning and had results by Friday afternoon. Would not hesitate to have it done again as I was so stressed in pregnancy number 1 and I just knew I couldn't go through that again.

I know we are all different so I hope you make an easy decision either way and that you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy whatever you decide.
