Pelvic floor excerises

I've been trying to do pelvic floor excersies and every book I read tells me how important they are! I don't think I am doing it right though as my stomach clenches when I do it (can't seem to do it without clenching my tummy muscles) and then I get tummy ache, which can't be right...Any ideas?

every time you go for a wee, practise stopping yourself mid-flow a few times, holding on for longer each time. Worked for me.

only do the stoppin wee thing to get an idea - don't do it too much because can get UTI.

my tummy tenses a bit when I do them but it is mainly in my fanjo and upwards that I feel it.
