Anaesthetist appointment...

I have one tomorrow, due to high BMI. I'm worried it's going to make me feel even more anxious about the birth than I already do, will they go on about the risks and stuff? Annoyed with myself that I am fat :-(

There's a one born every minute episode where a woman had a similar appointment I think, I'm sure it was just so they could make a plan about placing an epidural if needed so they could do it quicker if and when needed. Maybe check out more 4

I've not been referred to the anaesthetist and I've a high BMI and have told them I want an epidural.

34 weeks, think it's standard here. Have had two epidurals before however I didn't have a high bmi then. I'm hoping to manage without one this time

I have to get one, its to see if an epidural will be possible, but midwife told me i might not even get it til i'm in labour I was like ok whatever lol

I had this with my last pregnancy. I was really anxious but they explained the risks in a way that didn't make me feel terrified. Asked about any allergies, illnesses, loose teeth and checked my airway.

Reading other posts, I cant remember if the anaesthetist checked my back for epidural placement, more emphasis was placed on general anaesthetic in case of emergency but that may have been due to my pregnancy being high risk.

I had one with DD due to high BMI. He just checked my general health, checked my spine and that was that.

I ended up having a c section, and he had no problems doing the spinal so it was no major problem.

I'm 20 weeks with number 2 and will need to do the same again. Don't worry, they're here to help

I have one for January, glad i know what to expect now. I thought it was incase i needed a CS etc...

It was absolutely fine. He didn't even check my back. He basically asked me about previous two labours, I told him there's a chance I'll be induced again but that I wanted to try without an epidural this time, he said, "why?!?!" lol. He just said that because I'm at a slightly higher risk of needing assistance or a section then they do advise an epidural so they aren't struggling with one in an emergency situation. He also told me about a new form of pain relief that's intravenous but nothing in the spine, he said that might be worth researching.x
