Pregnant or left over hormones from giving birth last month?

My baby is eight weeks old and I have a positive pregnancy test. Is this likely to be left over hormones or a new pregnancy?

We planned to have another baby with a small age gap but didn't expect this, if it is a new pregnancy, already. I've only had sex once, which was a fortnight ago, and I am mix feeding.

Time is going by so quickly! I gave birth in October, not last month.

No experience or knowledge. But 8 weeks seems a long time to still have pregnancy hormones.. but very soon to be pregnant again!

Did you use protection? If not I suppose it's possible it's pregnancy, as even exclisuve breastfeeding isn't 100% effective as contraceptive, so mixed feeding would be less so.

Gosh I have no idea but congratulations and good luck if you're expecting again!!!

I would have thought it was more likely to be another pregnancy than leftover hormones. Myself and my sibling were born well within a year of each other, it does happen!

Yikes! I suppose I better make an appointment to see the midwife then. Grin

I have 11 months between my DDs. I'd say you're pregnant!

I have just under 11months between my eldest 2 so I would say you are pregnant. Congratulations

Mine are 11 months apart, they are super cute together!

Congratulations

You can be super fertile after birth if you're feeding less than 4 hourly throughout the day and night. I'd say you're probably pregnant. Congratulations! I know siblings who were in the same school year, so it can happen!

I think it happens quite a lot. Goodness I think it was about 4 months after the birth of my last before I could even think about it.

I read up on this (we didn't want another one immediately), and you're OK not to use contraception for three weeks post partum, but you would have been 6 weeks, so pregnancy is definitely possible.

DD has sister-friends 10 months apart. The eldest and youngest people in my school year were sisters. I don't think "left over hormones" is a thing.

It took so long to conceive my first that this is really unexpected. Welcome, but unexpected. At least the nappy stage will be over with in one go!

I was exclusively breast feeding and was pregnant again 14 weeks after giving birth. It's fine. I now have a 3 year old, a 2 year old and a 1 year old!

I would say a new pregnancy as I tested after my last baby because I had loads of left over tests and my tests were negative by day 13...... if I wa you I would wait a few days or a week and test again and see if the line is darker just to make sure before booking the midwife

I'm impressed by how quickly people started having sex post birth, we waited months and I was still terrified.

After my first I waited ages! My 11m apart dc are numbers 4 and 5. By the time you have number 4 the aftermath is a lot less traumatic! I was up and doing the school run the next day feeling fine.
Obviously no shagging til the bleeding stopped but it was about 8 weeks post and we decided to get it over with. That ended up being DD4!

I'm impressed by how fertile you are! I had to shag like a demon to get a hint of a line and whilst breast feeding my hormones are always flatlining.
