Every scan ive had (9 weeks, 12 weeks, 14 weeks, 16 weeks and 18 weeks) have come back perfect but they werent detailed scans other than 12 weeks. The rest were just to check if the baby was okay on a little scanner machine in a hospital ward, the 16 week scan was in a proper scan room but i dont know if they were looking for anything? It was just to check he was still moving as I have an anterior placenta and cant feel movement yet, but i know at the 20 week scan they check for things in more detail and im petrified they will find something. The baby's dad has a hole in his heart and im scared that our baby have got it. What are the chances of anything being wrong at the 20 week scan? Surely if they saw anything wrong on the other scans they would refer me to someone to sort it out, whether they were detailed scans or just check scans?

That's quite unusual to have had so many scans at that stage. Most people will only have had 1 scan before the 20 week one. Yes the 20 week scan is fairly detailed but if you had a scan at 18 weeks I would think anything major would have shown up then.

Hi. I had scans at 5,6, 9, 12 and 15 weeks and all were perfect. At our 20 week scan major heart defects were found. There is a hole in his heart, the great vessels are both in the same side of the heart and one is too wide and one too slim. It was awful news to deal with and because I have something not right with my heart (but nowhere near the same) they believe I have a faulty gene. I'm 35 weeks along now and my baby will have heart sugrery within a few days of birth to correct the size of the vessels but he can't have open heart sugrery to close the hole and move the vessel over until he is much much stronger and they have told me he should be ok without this op for some weeks / months.
So please don't panic, if they do find something then it is awful to hear and your world comes crashing down but as the weeks go on you realise that this is the best thing for your baby for them to know about it now. Heart conditions are very dangerous and scary but the worst ones are the undiagnosed ones. X
