Hi all!

I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant with my 1st baby and am getting myself all upset due to weight gain or lack of!
Currently only put on 3lb, I was a bit heavier pre pregnancy so I know it's probably normal and a good thing to not pile on the pounds.
What's getting me upset is keep having horrendous dreams that the midwife tells me I haven't put on enough weight and the baby can't survive and there's nothing I can do, (I know these are apparently normal and very common)
The thing is people keep commenting on how much weight I look like I have lost and how much slimmer I look now I'm pregnant even tho I have a very obvious bump already! I know people only mean well and telling someone they are slim is a fab compliment usually but coupled with the horrendous dreams I keep bursting into tears the second anyone tells me how slim I look!

Just needed a crazy hormonal pregnancy rant/would love to hear if anyone has had similar experiences with little weight gain and please come tell me it's normal!! Xxx

I wouldn't worry in my first pregnancy I lost weight because I had sickness so severe, by 20 weeks I was half a stone lighter. By 39 weeks I'd put that back on and another half a stone and she was 7lb 11oz :) I'm sure your baby will be perfectly healthy :)

You absolutely do not need to worry. Your baby will take what he/she needs. Just keep eating healthily and all will be fine. In my pregnancies I've only ever gained a maximum of 2stone by the time I gave birth. I'm a pretty normal weight and a size 10-12. Dd weighted 7lb15oz and this baby is estimated to weigh 4lb4oz at 32weeks. I've not gained weight anywhere but my bump. You will be fine I promise.

Please don't worry! Due to a false negative pregnancy test when we were TTC I didn't know I was pregnancy until I was about 3 months. During that time I did an aloe Vera cleanse and panicked on realising I was pregnant that I hadn't had enough calories. When pregnant the baby takes priority over you so my MW explained the baby would have been fine even on limited calories. Now have a healthy DC so she was right! I didn't put on much weight until late pregnancy and didn't seem to carry too much fluid as my weight gain seemed to be all "baby".

The important thing is to have a healthy nutritious diet

I'm 34 weeks and been told I'm the exact same weight I was at my Booking app at 8 weeks..... I was very sick in the begniing and lost a lot of weight so I'm slowly gaining weight or was until my sickness started coming back in the evenings 😠. Midwife said it's fine though and I'm having a scan on Monday to ensure baby is growing ok and that I have enough fluid

Thanks everyone for your kind replies, I have managed to be a bit more rational as I know it's silly to get upset! Stupid hormones! Xxx

I'm in the same boat, I'm 22 weeks and -6lbs last time I checked. I only gained a stone altogether last time. I felt awful all the time though because the baby was taking all the nutrients and she was/is very healthy!

I'm 37 weeks and only started putting weight on from week 20 onwards. Ive put on just under half a stone and had lost weight previous to 20 weeks through lack of takeaways and booze. I was a size 14 when I fell pregnant so it's not like I was a bean Pole.

I'm not doing anything differently (apart from the lack of alcohol) but in all honesty, the midwife thinks it may have done me a favour as my blood pressure is tip top.

You and baby will be fine, your midwife would be quick enough to say something to you should she think that you should be weighing more. Happy mum, happy baby I say :)

I put on hardly anything with DD1 - 16 weeks barely any weight gain and I wasn't even really obviously pregnant until around 7.5 months.
I was quite sick, but nevertheless I just didn't put on a lot of weight - everyone is different but do go to your midwife if you are anxious.
DD was 8lb 7 at birth and I still only looked about 5 months pregnant!

I wasn't TTC at all so had no idea I was pregnant so I was on a diet shortly after I conceived and lost a stone in a month. As it stands, I'm 20weeks today and still in all my normal clothes. Maybe put half of what I lost back on.
Plus, I've eaten better since I fell pregnant - I loved Coca Cola & Red Bull, and drank them everyday but now I've stopped so my calorie intake on that front has fallen. Please don't worry - your baby takes what it needs first and you'll start to see changes in the next month or so I'm sure

Well you are not supposed to gain in the first trimester and then about 1lb a week after that. So you are absolutely fine. I'm sure it will all come on soon, be careful what you wish for lol.
