Hi guys,

I was just wondering how many weeks you were when you told your employer?
Im only 4 + 3 (actually thought i was 4 last week.oops) but im not well at the moment.

Im exhausted and getting dizzy spells, which im going to see the doc hopefully next week to see if its hormones or something else.
Either way its affecting my daily life, i cant drive right now and its hell to work.

My job requires me to do heavy lifting and stand on my feet all day, so im worried about baby feeling like this.

Should i tell my boss even though im only a few weeks? i really wanted to wait till the 12 week mark but im not sure now.

thanks for any advice xx

It's entirely up to you. I waited until 19 weeks but didn't really have any reason to tell them before that. If you're feeling unwell and it's affecting your ability to work then telling work might be a good idea as you'll be protected if you need to take time off.

Hi Milly

I think under the circumstances it will be best for you to tell your employer, but ask them to keep it on a strictly need-to-know basis for now.

Any sick leave you might need to take during pregnancy doesn't go down on your sickness record in the same way (allowances are made), so HR need to know.

From a safety point of view, if you are having dizzy spells you ought to have a few people around you who know why.

Sorry that you're feeling so pants Flowers My 1st trimester was hard work with extreme tiredness and nausea and I know how relentless it feels.

I wanted to get to 10 weeks before I said anything but every morning I was running out of the meeting to throw up. Kinda gave it away

I told mine at 7 weeks. I work in a school and needed them to know in case I had to dash out of the classroom for any reason.

My fatigue is like something ive never known, i get at least 8 hours every night but as soon as i start moving in the morning its like i could sleep another 8 and it dont let up :/

I told my boss at 5wks because I was suffering from severe migraines that I had to take the day off to see a doctor. Sadly that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 6weeks. He understood and didn't tell anybody about my 2 week absence.

This time round I told him at 6 weeks (Monday last week) because I am getting very nauseous, close to dehydration and I was missing my usual train in the morning because of sickness. I have also had to leave the office at lunch time a few times too. I assumed that it would only get worse as I was only halfway through 1st trimester.

I was in exactly the same boat as you and I'm suffering majorly! I told them at 4 weeks just because of how I was feeling and i didn't want to harm me or anyone around me

I was 6 weeks but I work in retail and there was a lot of heavy lifting plus being on my feet all day everyday. I also have a really good relationship with my boss so it didn't feel weird telling him and it was really nice to have him on my side, as it were, because he totally looked after me (in terms of lifting, letting me have extra breaks, etc) from then.

If you're struggling then you should let them know so they can help you and hopefully make things easier for you. I know it's early but they shouldn't tell anyone and it might make you feel better
