Anyone else induced using pessary?

Hi so i am currently 37 weeks and I'm being induced due to some medical problems. This morning at 11am they inserted a propess pessary (not sure of name, tampon thingy) and told me they would check in 24 hours and try to break my waters then. My cervix is soft according to dr and a tiny bit open. This was almost 7 hours ago and i've had mild cramping but nothing painful. How long did yours take?

Hi, yes I was with DS. From memory, it took about 8-10 hours to start contractions then things moved pretty quickly!

Good luck, hope it goes well and you have newborn cuddles soon Flowers

I had this too and it was 7pm they pt the tablet in and I too got cramping and some mild contractions but I fell asleep and they seamed to wear off so they woke me at 6am and broke my water at 8am and I was then 4cm but it didn't really do anything so they had to put the drip in at 10:30am. I gave birth less than 4 hours later

I was 37 weeks when I was induced. Had two propesses 12 hours apart. 24 hours later had prostin pessary. 6 hours after that had waters broken, went on drip, DD arrived quickly once I was on the drip! It was a long process and demoralising at the time but still a great experience. Good luck!

Yes was induced this way with both my children.
dd (1st child) was born 4 hours after they put the pessary in. Ds was born 2 hours after.
Midwifes seemed totally perplexed both times. With ds I told her to take the pessary out as the baby was coming she told me to calm down its can't be happening yet.. ds was born 10 mins late.. Confused

I had the propess then the gel x2 then they broke my waters then gave me the drip. Took four days in total as I had to wait between each thing (can't remember if it was 12 or 24 hours. Anyway DS was born by EMCS in the end as all the stuff did bugger all!
Fingers crossed it works for you but be prepared for a long wait just incase!

I was with dc2. Had it in (and a sweep) at about midday, twinges an hour later, full blown labour at 4.30pm, baby out at 5.30pm. so was pretty quick for me. I hope that it kicks in soon for you!

I had the propess at 37+1, my cervix was ready the following day but they didn't have a delivery room until 2 days later, broke my waters at 37+4, nearly 24hrs later DD was born. Sorry that it isn't as quick as some of the PPs, but thought I would mention it so you know it can happen. Fingers crossed yours is quicker!

Been induced twice with it. First time 8hr of pessary before labour and then waters broken. 4 hours from there. Second contracting almost instantly from pessary, 5cm within two hours, waters broken, 3 hours from there.

I was induced with dc1, already overdue by 1 week and went in for the second time with reduced movement. Was 2cm when examined and had the pessary put it. Had a few mild pains over the next 24 hours but nothing much happened. Waters broken the following day, followed by drip. Got to 10cm within about 10hours but baby in wrong position and heart rate all over the place and ended up with emergency c-section. Whole thing took 4 days in the end!

I loved my induction labour. Much preferred to the spontaneous onset with my first.

Had the first pessary at 9am, started having regular contractions by 3pm which meant they couldn't give another pessary. They finally managed to break my waters at around 6pm and DD2 was born 7am the next morning.

My pessary was inserted around 3pm and when I was examined around 11pm I was dilated enough to move to the labour ward. There were a couple of other women who needed a second or third pessary so hopefully you're moving along nicely on your first! Good luck

I was induced using the pessary as I was overdue. It works differently for every woman, so I would not worry about how long it is taking.

When I checked into the hospital, I was put in a room with a woman who had already been there for 24 hours, and it had not worked, so they had to do it again.

I, on the other hand, was hyper stimulated (8 contractions within 10 minutes at one point), and within hours I was in labour. DS still took a day to arrive though, he really didn't want to be moved.

I had three pessaries and they didn't work! Hope you have more luck.

I was induced at 40+12. Pessary inserted around midday and it started working. Waters broke but took pessary with them so everything stopped. I was put on a drip the following morning, and DS born 24 hours later via forceps delivery.

You can ask them what your Bishop score is, it is an indication of how likely induction is to succeed.

I had a good score. I got pessary at 8am, nothing. Another one at about 2pm, still nothing. That night I was told to go to sleep and they would do one more and start drip in the morning. I was disheartened and upset at staying overnight on the same floor as my ERPC for a miscarriage shortly before that pregnancy. Just as I lost all hope, my water suddenly broke spontaneously at the stroke of midnight, contractions started very soon after and were 2-3 minutes apart from the beginning. I got epidural at 2am and baby born just after 4.30 am.

I was 40+6 though, with a favourable score, so I expect your situation might be different.

Having said that, of the 7 women admitted the same time as me, I was the only one left on the induction ward at nine that evening.

Thanks sycamore54321 i will ask but i think i am pretty favourable as consultant made it clear they would only start induction if my cervix was favourable,if it wasn't they would of tried to make me wait a couple of days after a sweep. I'm trying to tell myself to not expect too much and things will happen when they do!

Ds1(at 40 + 12) pessary around 6pm, contractions started around midnight and baby born at 4.50am. All very quick but very intense.

Ds2 (again 40 +12!!)pessary about 5pm and nothing! Was so confident would be in and out of hospital in 2 days max!

Waited for another 2 days for a slot in labour suite to have waters broken but too busy. Ds2 eventually decided to put in an appearance after going into labour myself at 40+15!

Good luck op, we're all so different.
Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

yes, 39 weeks (first baby), put pessary in, immediately started cramping, went on for about 12 hours then wore off a little but came back, never got regular or really strong. I was pretty hopeful but 24 hours later had actually gone backwards, cervix was less favourable than before. Decision made to get some sleep and start again in the morning.

Had a coffee and a cupcake. Cramps came back, so decided to go in the bath, got stronger very quickly so got out after 20 minutes, tried TENS, hated it. Started throwing up and then needing to push. Waters broke. Told I was 3cm, next contraction asked for c-section as DD's heartrate dipped, they got the forms, next contraction they saw her head, next contraction she was born (total 15 minutes 3cm-birth) planning on doing it all again in three weeks, hoping for a similarly positive induction story this time.
