How many days....?

did the EDD you were given at your first scan differ from the one you had calculated?

I had a scan when I thought I was 7+4, but the consultant said that the size of my 'bean' was consistent with 6+4. Is this normal when I have had 28-days cycles (although the last couple of periods lasted 8-10 days, sorry if TMI) or might it indicate that the embryo is not growing as it should? Any advice would be much appreciated!

none at all - but i knew the day on which i ovulated

just knowing the length of your cycle doesn't tell you when you ovulated, even if you are text book 28 days, although most people ovulate between 10 and 14 days before the end of their cycle (so your dates are unlikely to vary by a whole week)

but scan dates rarely match up exactly with what you think (because babies grow at diff rates - e.g. with my current pregnnacy my bean measures bigger than it should do acc to the books). because i'm alwasy 100% sure of my dates they never change my edd, but if you're not sure maybe they use scan measurements and go from there

Yes I was 5 days out from my estimated date from LMP - I knew this would be the case as I ovulate around about day 18/19 rather than day 14.

Don't forget that you could have ovulated later in your cycle on this occasion and also you may not have conceived immediately.

This early in the process babies are not big or small for their dates which is why early scans are so accurate.

Saying this, my sonographer did say that they are now accepting there may be margins of error and as they are talking about babies lengths in mm's they could easily be a few days wrong.

My EDD changed by four days this pg, and six days last pg, according to my dating scan. But tbh I often wonder how accurate these scans are; after all, the images can be rather fuzzy and 1mm out means a day either way (or some such!). I wouldn't worry about it DK

(ps ds arrived on his due date but was really wrinkly and had long nails - a sign of being rather overdue - so it's not an exact science anyway )

My scan gave a due date of 6 days before my EDD. Pleased to say DS was born on MY EDD! Don't worry!!

Thanks a lot - that's really reassuring! I'll stop worrying now...
