Normal birth after big PPH- looking for reassurance!

Three years ago I had a really good, straightforward water birth with DS, but passed the placenta quite fast then bled heavily. Passed out in the pool, needed emergency surgery, transfusions etc. I'm 11wks pg and already quite scared of a) not being allowed to labour in the pool, but more so that b) I could bleed badly again. I know second labours tend to be faster, but first wasn't exactly long! What if I don't get to hospital in time??

Can anyone reassure me that they had a normal birth after a previous PPH? I know it's early days, but I'm already getting quite nervous. Thanks in advance!

Hi, congratulations on your news. I'm sorry you had such a scary time first time round. Have you discussed with anyone from your hospital? I'm a midwife and in my hospital, we would recommend that women with a previous pph have an oxytocin drip post delivery. We would also recommend syntometrine at delivery. Ive seen lots of women with previous pph go on to have a completely normal delivery second time around. X
