I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and the midwife told me today the baby is 2/5 engaged. What does that mean?

I think it means that the baby's head is in position for birth or soon will be. I think 2/5 of your baby's head can be felt by the midwife and 3/5 is below the pelvic bone. I'm 36 weeks and was told that my baby's is 3/5 engaged but I think your baby is lower x

It can apparently mean either your baby is 2/5 in the pelvis or 2/5 above - depends on the midwife. Very confusing. I'm 39w and 3/5 IN the pelvis. Essentially, it means your baby is getting into position but it has little bearing on when you will go into labour. My DD1 was ready to go for weeks and I still went overdue by a week. I'm not getting excited this time but I really want this baby out

I was hoping it would mean that I would be on time at least! But thank you for the replies :-)

2/5 engaged is 2/5 of the head is in the pelvis. Means not very much with regards to when you will labour

It's how much of the baby's head the midwife can feel usually. I was 1/5 engaged on the Monday at 36wks and had my son on the Friday. Good Luck!

Yeah my first. I miscarried last year which wasn't nice but I guess that wasn't meant to be like this little madam. You?

It's all a bit confusing but I wouldn't read too much into how engaged baby is anyway... I kept asking at midwife appointments and they weren't too fussed because it doesn't give an indication to labour. Some babies only engage once labour has started and some babies disengage before engaging again. Whatever it means for you, good luck :)

I looked at my notes yesterday. I was 3/5 engaged at 36w and 39w. I'm now 39w4d. Nothing Sad. It really does mean naff all. I really want it out.

She hasn't got a name yet.. I feel terrible but I don't think we were quite expecting her this early and didn't find out the sex!
A very healthy 7.11lb... I dread to think what she would have weighed after a few more weeks! X

You still have time to think anyway. And that's a lovely healthy weight. I hope you're both doing well x
