Pregnancy

Anyone between 4 - 8 weeks, and feeling very nervous?

Hello! This is my first tentative step from the Infertility Board.

I am 5 weeks and 1 day, not feeling any substantial side effects yet - and until I see a strong heartbeat I feel like a fraud over here on Pregnancy. But equally I don't belong for the moment over on Infertility.

My battle has not been that long - been trying for about 18 months, and this was my first fresh round of IVF. We transferred two 5-day blasts on 13 September (my cycle is 24 days so somehow this makes me 5+1 today).

My IVF was at the Lister, and I have one naturally conceived son who just turned 2. I am nearly 41 years old.

If there is anyone else out there who has their BFP, but getting here has been a great struggle for any reason, and you are counting the minutes until a viability scan (and then will be very nervous about genetic screening), maybe you would like to chat here for a while?

Would love some buddies through this tough period!

Hello! I was 18 months TTC and, at 22 weeks tomorrow still feel like a fraud! I'm 36. It's been significantly more enjoyable since the anomoly scan though as we started telling all and sundry Smile

We didn't go down the assisted conception route, so the 12 week scan was the first time it was confirmed - my anxiety levels were through the roof beforehand!

Congratulations! Flowers Flowers Hopefully someone at the same stage will be along soon to share the journey with you.

Congratulations on making it this far Ravioli!! That is my dream!!

Waiting until 12 weeks to know for sure is seriously impressive. One of the many downers of IVF is knowing far too much detail FAR FAR to early.

Well done a good anomaly scan too - what a great feeling!!

Hey, why not join us on the June ante natal club. We are all a bundle of nerves, disbelief and wonder where our symptoms are over there Smile

Thank you so much CupofTea! Truthfully I am scared and feel a bit of a fraud joining a 'proper' thread already. I am lurking with you all already and I promise to join soon...am aiming for a 6-week viability scan next Thursday or Friday. I hope that will give me some reassurance. I don't know why I don't quite feel ready.

So this was my attempt at a 'semi-pregnant, inbetweeny, thread'.

Do you have period pains? Ever since embryo transfer I have had constant aches and pains and pulling. Freaks me out a little.

Yes have had period like pains constantly this week but right in the middle of the bottom of my tummy rather than at the sides. Have also been feeling constantly sick.... my friend had twins and said that's exactly how she felt... scary!!! Have you any other symptoms?? I'm wondering if I'm further along than I think... x

I was so tempted by private early scans but avoided them in case of bad news! I'm a nervous wreck within 20 minutes of every midwife appointment as I start inventing problems, so DH is taking the day off to come with me next time!

I hope all goes smoothly for you now Smile Star

Hi,

I'm six weeks +3 days and also really nervous. My sister had two missed miscarriages so until I see a baby with a heart beat I'm not going to be entirely convinced it's real. I have also had some spotting so I'm getting an early scan at 8 weeks but that feels ages away.

Hi Granny, i also have severe exhaustion in the afternoon - but as this was IVF I am using progesterone pessaries, so tiredness could be very linked to that too. I have been pregnant twice before (one DS age 2, and KBE early miscarriage); and both times the terrible sickness hit at about 5.5 weeks. So by my calculation I only have a few days to go before loo hugging begins. And if it doesn't then I will be convinced it is already all over.

Ravioli, I too invent problems, and find scans the only way to give me temporary reassurance. No one approves of my scan obsession and by the end of my previous (successful) pregnancy, I was spreading myself between a long list of clinics so no one really knew how many I was having. Seriously!! This is not a wise or grown up way to approach a pregnancy and doesn't help at all. Do it whichever way feels right for you.

Hello Nimisha, many congratulations! So sorry you are worrying, and glad you will go for a scan in about 10 days. I know everyone will have told you this, but spotting is SO normal in first trimester. With my son I had a small but bright red bleed at about 7 weeks and then spotted both red and brown for the subsequent 5 weeks. It made me mental but it also means this time I will be much more relaxed about spotting. How are your other symptoms and 6+3?

My fears this time are all around the IVF, effects of IVF, being nearly 41, and the instinct that if this one doesn't stick then I feel sure my chances are all over. I feel like I want it TOO much. ARGH.

Thanks for joining all.

Can I join? We'd been trying for just under a year but had one miscarriage almost immediately (and I suspect at least one more very early miscarriage since). Had started investigations due to my cycles being short and haywire, but no treatment. I'm 6+2 today and have a scan booked a week today.

I'm only very slightly nauseous in the mornings and willing it to get worse. I assume if it does get worse I will look back on this with wonder, but I want more proof!

Please do join Orange - and many many congratulations on your pregnancy! I am envious of you guys past the 6 week stage!

My cycles are also short (22-24 days) - but they always have been.

I will be interested

I also have a 6 week scan booked next week - mine is on Thursday, so I hope we both are heading towards happy results. May still be too early for me to scan, but I'm doing it anyway.

I will be keen to see how you are feeling nausea-wise by the time of your scan! You are only just reaching the average stage for it to start...I absolutely hate morning sickness. You can have ALL of mine if it comes...

Ha! I will take your morning sickness gladly (famous last words). This would be my first and 6+2 is a 'personal best' for me, so I have no experience of morning sickness to make me careful what I wish for.

Fingers crossed for the end of next week.

This might be really morbid but I have found this site which calculates miscarriage risk by day incredibly helpful in feeling like I am making progress every day. Maybe it will keep you calm to 6 weeks? spacefem.com/pregnant/mc.php?m=08&d=10&y=12 (or make you feel worse in which case big apologies)

I absolutely love that chart, thank you orange! Seeing the likelihood decrease each day feels much more achievable than waiting for a scan.

Hi LH congratulations! I'm almost 40 and pregnant with my first, conceived through my first ivf cycle.
I was a bag of nerves before my viability scan! Had a bleed too. I'm still very anxious at 14 weeks. We've decided to have private scans once a month to ease the worry.
There is a pregnancy after infertility thread I'd recommend you join. We've had births and losses on the thread, and everyone understands what a stressful and painful road we've been on, and that it doesn't end with a bfp.

I had cramps until 9 weeks or so, and twinges in my ovaries until about 12. It's normal after an ivf cycle.

Hi LH,

I'm currently 7+2, after TTC for 2.5 years. We had the appointment to talk about IVF the week we found out we were first pregnant but sadly MC at 6 weeks. Managed to conceive again straight away and we had a scan last week and saw a heartbeat, it was amazing. I'm still worrying everyday, but feeling up and down with queasiness, so although it's horrible, it's reassuring at least Smile

Good luck with your scan!

Waves to LH, I've been waiting for you to start this thread after seeing you mention it on MNBI. Good luck for the scan next Thursday, mine is on Friday.

Oranges I love that website, thanks for sharing!

Nanny that is exactly where my cramps are too. Maybe it is normal?!

I'm 5+5 and terrified. Between this week's pregnancy-unknown-location-possible-ectopic nightmare, and the fact that I seem to be one of those women who is resistant to antibiotics during pregnancy so I still can't shift this UTI, I'm a bag of nerves. I'm getting regular period cramps which always seem to be worse overnight, so I wake up with the pain. My digestion is also not happy.

Also LH your description of you spreading your scanxiety around many clinics really made me laugh. I've got visions of you sneaking in wearing a burberry mac, a glam headscarf and giant sunglasses for an illicit mid-afternoon scan Grin.

Well, I am still disappointed by my failure to get proper morning sickness today, though did feel mildly nauseous in my yoga class, and I'm certainly more tired and less good at balancing than usual.

Robber, that sounds like a dreadful week. The UTI feels like 'adding insult to injury' as well as being actually an injury.

I'm home alone this weekend which is giving me plenty of obsessing time...

Nanny and Robber - that's where my cramps are too. Mine aren't too bad - they come and go and are much less bad than one of my actual periods.

I got bad cramps in my first pregnancy, particularly at night, they woke me up. Even went to see the doctor about them but she reassured my it was normal. This time few cramps here and there but they don't worry me as I'm expecting them.

Not much in the way of nausea, a bit and it tends to be in the afternoon or evening. Sore boobs though. And tired, but I'm always tired.

I am full of cold, coughing loads. I took a spoon of corvonia in the middle of the night the other night and then realised I probably shouldn't have. I forgot I was pregnant! It was 2am and I wasn't thinking straight. I checked the bottle afterwards and it said caution rather that avoid. I haven't taken any more though.

Good luck with everyone's scans this week. I'm excited but also dreading mine a little bit and it's not until a week on Tuesday.

Nimisha me too - I had the flu jab a week ago (and felt smug about my organisation!) but I woke up today with what feels like a spiky golf ball wedged in my throat. I'm trying to not take anything, but I might take 1 paracetamol later to take the edge off so I can get to sleep.

Thanks Orange, it wasn't the most fun few days. I was so relieved when they saw the embryo in the womb on my second scan. Just realised you've also got a scan at the end of next week - lots of us on the same two days!

Hi all!

Drinkyourmilk - I follow you on many threads, so I know how well you are doing! 14 weeks, wow, congratulations! Thanks for the period pain reassurance - I have certainly worked out that mine are best in the morning, and get worse through the day, and especially bad if I walk or lift a lot.

Hi Bumble! Well done on your recent viability scan! You are exactly two weeks ahead of me, and 7+2 sounds so good right now. Although I also reckon that must be a CRAP stage for morning sickness.

Hi Nimisha - like you my early queasiness is beginning to start towards the end of the day as I get tired. Does anyone else find this? I know I am still very early for MS, but I had HG with my son, and was hospitalised three times, loads of meds etc so I am getting nervous about an inevitable repeat. Lug my ass back to the Hyperesemis thread if I get that far.

Orange, rest assured, it is probably coming. I think most women feel MS by around 8 weeks - if nothing by then, then you will probably be one of those lucky 20% that avoids it. Someone has to be in the 20% - bitch that might be you!!! EnvyEnvyEnvy

Hey, did anyone get mega night sweats in the first week or so of pregnancy? Mine started around the time I got my BFP, and they are continuing to varying levels now. I am talking waking in the middle of he night DRIPPING with teeth chattering etc, full change of jammies required. So I now go to bed with a little pile of fresh t-shirts and boxer shorts nearby....doesn't get sexier than that.

Hi Robber! My existing friend from the Infertility board. So happy things seem to be calming down for you after a horrid week.

All fingers crossed for all our scans this week. I hope mine at 6+0 won't be too early.

Robber, how is someone going to get rid of this UTI once and for all? How long has it been now? Sounds terrible, you poor thing.

My scan obsession is a running joke with my husband. Last time my consultant got so (genuinely) irritated by the constant flood of scan reports for me arriving at his office, that when the scan person would say 'I assume we should send this report to your consultant' I would almost rugby tackle them 'NO!! NO!!! Under NO circumstances please!!! This is a reassurance scan for ME only!!!! Promise, promise?!".

SOOOO, watching the Ryder Cup again which isn't going Europe's way right now. I ate Chinese takeaway tonight including sweet and sour prawns. I think cooked and battered large prawns are pretty much ok - if anyone thinks that was a giant mistake, do say and I won't do it again. Bit of a craving developing here apparently!
