Overdue and miserable

I am a week overdue with DC2 and I feel like the baby is never going to arrive. I went 4 days over with DC1. MW wants to book me in for an induction at +12 days, I've had two failed sweeps as my cervix was posterior. I am seeing the MW today. I can't decide whether to let her try another sweep or if I am just setting myself up for another disappointment if she can't do it again? If my cervix is so unfavourable for a sweep would induction even work? I have tried everything to put myself into labour!!! If anyone can make me feel better I would be so grateful as I feel at my wits end!

I have no idea, as I went 17 days and 19 days late with mine. It wasn't fun . Especially the last one, when the head was engaged for 5 weeks .

So just here to offer sympathy .

Hi, I'm 10 days overdue here so I can really sympathise. It's my first baby but I really thought I would have met him or her by now! I have been booked for induction on Sunday. I had a sweep yesterday. Last week the sweep failed completely as my cervix was so posterior and closed. Yesterday the midwife managed to reach it and it was 1cm and soft. I would say go for the sweep again because even of it doesn't work she may be able to stretch your cervix and start ripening it ready for your induction. Good luck!

Thank you both of you. Kr1stina that sounds tough going so over both times! HP07 that is a good point about the sweep. Good luck to you too, I hope you go before Sunday Wink

I was feeling exactly the same as you prior to my sweep yesterday. I was wondering if there was a point and thinking I'd be so disappointed if it didn't work. Well it probably hasn't worked in the traditional sense but at least I know my cervix is 1cm dilated now and it may have helped soften it further in anticipation of the birth.

With my dc3 I was sooooooo desperate to go into labour naturally so I could get the chance to have a vba2c. At 40+2 someone suggested accupuncture as it can stimulate contractions and start you of naturally. I was dubious but so desperate I would try anything. I book a session and it was brilliant. The needles dont hurt at all but when she manipulated them I could definitely feel my womb contracting and something happening in my "lady bits" lol. The lady I used was brilliant and gave me "exercises" to do at home (massaging pressure points) she suggested a follow up session for 3/4 days later if nothing happened but she was going away on holiday and I didnt want to c anyone else. I did my exercises and a week after the therapy a miraculously went into labour. (Something iv never dont before). It might have just happened anyway but i would def recommend it for desperate overdue ladies. I could def feel it working whilst I was there. Good luck op, I know exactly how you feel. Xx

Good luck with the acupuncture, but I would definitely have another sweep as well. With DD2 I had a sweep at +10 and she said my cervix wasn't favourable at all so booked me in for the induction at +12 and said i would need to have the pessary. Went in to the antenatal ward and my cervix was completely different and the midwife felt that my waters could be broken without the pessary. She gave me a sweep whilst she was there and then I just had to wait for a bed on labour ward. Two hours later whilst still waiting on antenatal ward I went into labour naturally, no induction needed!

I know having sweeps that don't work can be so disheartening but I wouldn't give up on them. One of them just might work or as a PP said it might make it more likely the induction will work.

The midwife tried to do a sweep again yesterday but couldn't even reach my cervix. I've set my mind to being induced at +12 and if I go before then it will be a bonus. I will be so disappointed because I had a lovely home birth last time and was hoping for the same again.

I was in your position 8 years ago. My daughter was due on 25th May and came on 6th June. Two sweeps didn't work (despite midwife saying "oh yeh she will defo come any day now") I went to get induced at 12 days but thankfully they decided to just burst my waters and it all happens naturally after that. Inducing can take days

Fingers crossed for the acupuncture

I assume you tried lots of sex? Didn't ever work for me but it has a scientific basis apparently . Unlike curry and pineapple.

Kr1stina we have tried a few times but the last time hurt a little bit and now my husband won't go near me because he doesn't want to hurt me! I've tried explaining that the thought of being induced is hurting me more!! Grin

Yeah I know , sometimes getting the right angle can be tricky . Oh the romance of saying " please apply some prostaglandins to my cervix " .

Still he got you in this situation in the first place, it's the least he can do
