Referred for a growth scan

Been to the midwives today For my 31 week appointment and my bump hasn't grown since 28 weeks so I've been referred for a growth scan on Thursday.

Has anyone else been in a similar position? Should I be worried? What can I expect at the scan and after? Will I have to have another?
Sorry for all the questions, I should have asked the midwife more but didn't think at the time

Thanks in advance x

Hi, have you had any other complications apart from this extra scan? X

No, low blood pressure but that's about it

We had this. There were no problems at all. While I would always get checked out, please don't worry. The tape measure on bump method is massively inaccurate. i was scanned after no apparent bump growth at 34 weeks, then they booked me in for another scan at about 37 weeks. The earlier scan measured baby at 6lb ish, the latter scan they said baby was 8lb 5oz. She arrived at 39+6 at 7lb 12oz.

So treat the scan and any subsequent ones they may enforce on you as extra reassurance-they will check placenta is working right, and don't worry too much about measurements and so on.

did you have a different midwife to normal?

No it was usual midwife! I have felt the baby turn this last week or so and wondered if it is because she is laid in a different position but don't know if that would affect my measurements?

not sure whether different position would change measurement. I asked because I had to have growth scan at around the same time but it was because I had a different midwife who measured me differently (or wrong however you like to look at it) the growth scan came out fine. on other hand a friends baby did stop growing due to an infection caught in womb- baby was fine but small and premature. they send you for the growth scan to check on this sort of thing. try not to worry. don't expect to get a bonus ultrasound pic though cos baby too big to get a full pic by then xx

I had a growth scan with DC1 as my bump 'stopped' growing by the tape measure. The scan was fine she was then born at 40+1 at 8lb so no issues at all. I'm now 31 weeks with DC2 and had a growth scan last week due to a small bump. The is baby is on the 10th centile apparently so I'll have a check up this week and a further scan next week. If growth is consistent they'll leave me alone if not I'll have further scans until delivery. So the answer is no one knows until the scan what the outcome will be but don't worry. Keep an eye on movement patterns as you would be anyway and see what happens. The tape measure is notoriously unreliable so please don't worry.

I had a growth scan last wednesday, as at the midwife appointment on the monday, at 36 + 5 I was measuring at 34 still.

I put it down to the fact that baby sits high with his body arched into my ribs, and limbs downwards and to my right - hence my right side is bigger that the centre, but they only take the measurement from the middle dont they!

Movements were fine so I wasn't concerned, and the growth scan was measuring perfectly :) So looked at is as a positive that we got to see him again before his soon expected arrival!

Good Luck for the scan OP :)

I've had to have 2 in this pregnancy. The first at 28 weeks because I was measuring big (baby 4lb 10oz) amf the second at 38 weeks because he "hadn't grown for 3 weeks" (baby 7lb 5oz)

I will be 40+10 tomorrow, waters went at midday today, contractions have been on and off all day so will be induced at 11am. Baby should've gained around half a pound a week so expecting him to br around 8lb 10oz. Will let you know!

Don't worry about it 😊

I had this from 30 weeks as my bump was apparently measuring less than it should. Had about 5 growth scans after this every 2 weeks till my DS was born 5Ibs 6oz. Nothing to worry about, the graph doesn't accommodate for smaller babies without raising alarm bells. He was perfectly healthy and is now 15 months. Good luck!!

Well my "7lb 5oz" at 38 weeks baby was born yesterday, 41+3 weighing 7lb 9oz. So not accurate for me.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. Had the growth scan today, baby is estimated at more than healthy 4lb at 31+3!! Apparently I'm just carrying well.
Xxx
