What baby wash will you be using?

I'm coming near to the end of my pregnancy and got most things. Just wondering what is the most gentle baby wash for bath time? All I want is something as simple and non-irritating as possible, but would be interested in organic stuff too if not expensive? Thank you.

For DS1 I used to just put a chunk of coconut oil in the running water of the bath and didn't use a separate wash until he was about 3/4 months. They don't really need a soapy wash at that tiny stage. After that I just used whatever organic stuff John Lewis sold.

Nothing to begin with. After a few weeks we used oilatum as dd had mild eczema.

Nothing, newborns only need water.

Nothing but water for a bit and then we moved onto Sanex Zero which doesn't irritate their eczema.

Nothing at first, then boots baby sensitive/unfragranced top to toe wash when the neck folds started to get a bit, err, cheesy after a few weeks.

Tried coconut oil but wasn't keen on the smell.

DD1 was /is prone to eczema, DD2 seems a bit tougher so now using mum and me top to toe (yes, bad for skin but smells soooo nice!) in moderation on her hair and hands.

Simple baby wash with camomile has been amazing for dd's skin- everything else has irritated her

I have never washed my children with anything but water apart from Weleda Calendula shampoo/body wash on their hair when it really needed it. You really don't need anything in my opinion! A nice splash in warm water seems to get them clean enough (for me anyway...)

Seconding the simple with chamomile. Totally non irritating. I'm eczema prone so very picky about this stuff. Also really cheap.

We only started using it at about 3 months though. Before that just water or a little coconut oil (kokoso brand is lovely and not too strong smelling).

Hospital recommended not bathing them for the first 2 weeks. You don't need to use any products on them at all - dd1 didn't have any til she started wanting bubbles around age 1. The Child's Farm range is gorgeous from Boots/Sainsbury.

We just use oilatum as anything else flares up ds's eczema.

Positivity there's no strict rule. Some hospitals do the first one with you (mine offered) before you go home. Other people find it better to wait a few days. Babies do not need a bath every day and sometimes it can really dry out delicate skin so it's OK to just wash them top to toe in the skin folds with cotton wool or a soft cloth and water.
Babies often really hate it so a good way for everyone to relax is to get in the bath together and just cuddle for a bit.
The cuddling is the best bit of course.

How often? As little as possible - with dd1 in hindsight we washed her too often as we thought it would help with routine. I'm not sure it helped routine really, but she did smell nice. Sadly she did also get excema. Dd2 washed once a week if she was lucky and no excema.
Hardly a huge sample size but I'm delighted.

All bum changes done with cotton wool and rather a lot of water (towel on change mat to catch overspill) so she never got too bad I suppose.

I second Heatherbell coconut oil in the bath just once a week I also used it as a moisturiser and in DS bottom as a barrier cream. Smells divine

Plain old water. Definitely not J&J (sorry PP) - made his skin flare up like crazy.

As for how often, I reckon we did DS twice a week until he was old enough to self support in a shallow bath (lying on back), so around 4-5 months and then it became more regular as it didn't kill our backs to hold his head up. Maybe every couple of days moving to daily as he started to move more and actually get dirty.

These days (2.5) he gets bubble bath.
