Amazing baby changing station!

I blame pinterest! I was browsing for ideas of how we could decorate the nursery and this popped up. Is there anything similar in the Uk? I have checked Google with no avail. It's the pottery barn Madison changing station.

Off to think of ways I can hack IKEA units..

I had multiple free baby changing stations - the floor, the bed, the chest of drawers. If you really want to take your baby upstairs every time you're going to change them, go for it. Otherwise, get a fiver changing mat from Tesco! At least it's mobile.

What Hands said, plus the chalk effect paint would be ruined with the first nappy explosion during nappy off time. Shit happens, literally.

It is very pretty though.

Surely it can still be used as a piece of furniture rather than just a changing station.

It is a thing of beauty OP, no doubt about that but it is awkward trying to change a wee wriggly baby side on.... much better on the floor, facing fowards IYSWIM.

Maybe you could adapt an old Welsh dresser or something. Then add book shelves either side and paint it all the same colour, add baskets etc. It's lovely though.

We never had a baby changing unit either. We used the flood downstairs and just changed her on a towel on our laps in bed. If you do get one I would only get one that can be repurposed once they wriggle around as by then doing it on the floor will be safer.

Changing sideways on is an absolute pain. You'll all be covered in shit. Honestly. It is pretty, but you could get a lovely vintage-y wardrobe, bedside table, etc, instead.

By the time the baby is big enough to sleep in it's own room it will probably be too big to use that for nappy changing anyway. When it's tiny you'll just end up changing it on your bed at 3am in the dark.

It is very pretty.....but I almost guarantee is will be used a handful of time, then become a random-crap-collector
I bought a changing unit when I had Dd, she's 16 months now and I think I've changed her on that unit twice in her whole life At night I just couldn't bear to move from my bed - I filled the top drawer of the bedside table with nappy changing stuff, and during the day there was no way I was going all the way upstairs to change a nappy!
Tiredness and a sense of "can't be arsed with that" will override the pretty changing unit

It is lovely but the position of the changing mat is really awkward.

We got an Ikea one given and bought another. We had one upstairs and one downstairs.

The one given to us is still in perfect nick and it's on it's fifth child. (Eldest 10, youngest 14 months). We bought cheap mats for a fiver for both.

DH agrees with you all. My obsession to get it has now well and truly been nipped in the bug. 1st time mu getting all too excited and probably making all the wrong decisions.

Actually now that you mention sideways changing, DH got shat on by dnephew last week and his excuse was that baby was in a funny position.

I am just imagining all the wee running into all the drawers when baby does a wee on the changing mat.

As an aside, though, I'd just like to suggest that if you have room I DO think that having a changing table is worth it. I followed the received wisdom of mumsnet and just had a mat on the floor or a chest of drawers. But baby was born by c section and I had no stomach muscles at all, and found myself crying in pain from my back, kneeling on the floor unable to get back up while holding him and bought a changing table for £12 off ebay. It was LIFE CHANGING. I could change him without pain. Plus, it had a flip up top and a wee bath underneath so I could BATH him without pain! Mat on the floor is fine for some, but the changing table is great for me.

Yes my first thought was how awkward it would be to change the baby in that position! It's very pretty though!

I do like changing stations though. We had a cheap ikea changing table downstairs and an over the cot one upstairs and found them really useful.

I prefer side on changing, too, as DS kicks me in the tits if he's face on!

I had a c section and always use my babies changing station (from mamas and papas) and she's now 8 weeks so it was a fab investment!
It's handy as it stores all wipes, nappies and nappy bags, we bath her in it and it was light enough to wheel into the bathroom.. Tbh I don't think I could have done the first 3 weeks without it - it was excellent for leaning on ;)

Hehehe op! You will get shat on at some point, it's all part of the fun!

I am really glad we bought changing tables, they saved our backs and knees. They are also great for my mum who has bad knees.

Ok, I'm clearly very odd, but I much prefer to change 'side on' and find it very tricky to do it any other way. I also love the changing unit and have always taken them upstairs to change nappies. But I mainly use reusables so it would be a bit of a messy faff to do it in the living room I guess.

This looks similar to mine. Works perfectly. Varnished chalk paint no problem. Perfect height. Side on changing perfect.

Just a mat required - completely portable, easy to store in any room and can be used anywhere at any height. After baby 1 you'll realise the amount of stuff you acquire or thought you needed is overwhelming and actually not required. It is pretty though...

Bollocks. I don't know anyone who chooses the floor post-delivery over a changing station at a sane height. Would you chop onions on the floor?
