Cot mattress

I am 37 weeks pregnant with 2nd baby and have just been told I need to buy a new mattress for the baby's cot. We bought an expensive mattress for our first baby as we intended to use it for other children. Our DD is 20 months old and has been in a bed for the last month. Just wondered if other mums have bought new for subsequent children or have used the same mattress?

I don't think it's a rule or anything! As long as the mattress hasn't sunk or anything I don't see why you couldn't use it again...although I have just purchased a new one for DC 2 due in a few weeks. But i my because the cother mattress Ds1 used is now on his junior bed.

SIDS advice is to purchase new, even for your own children.

We bought a new crib mattress and will buy a cot one when dc1 moves into a bed and dc2 needs the cot.

3 DC here. Have bought new each time but cheap ones: they only get used for around 2.5 years, or even less after a memorable incident involving diarrhoea and forgetting both a nappy and a mattress protector.

I reused ours as it had a removable washable cover and the mattress itself was waterproof and could also be cleaned

Thanks for the link dementedpixie. We have had a mattress protector and it is still in excellent condition. Luckily DD has only has one tummy bug and it was while we were in holiday so no vom or dia in the cot! Looking at the link it looks like we can use it but I will have a think. Thanks everyone for your thoughts x
